Showing it in the middle of the day, that is messed up. What is even more bizarre is that 150 years ago when someone was to be executed here in the US, it was a big spectacle. Everyone dressed up, and the whole town gathered around the gallows....I guess it was a form of entertainment.
Yeh, it used to be a big thing in England too. They'd all get their Sunday best on and gather around.
On a lighter note: (DISCLAIMER: This joke mentions hanging and has a very weak pun - sorry!)
A cowboy walks into a bar and orders a whisky. When the bartender delivers the drink, the cowboy asks, "Where is everybody?" The bartender replies, "They've all gone to the hanging."
"Hanging? Who are they hanging?" asks the cowboy.
"Brown Paper Pete," the bartender replied. "What kind of a name is that?" asked the puzzled cowboy. "Well," says the bartender. "He wears a brown paper hat, brown paper shirt, brown paper trousers and brown paper shoes."
"How bizarre," said the cowboy. "What are they hanging him for?"
"Rustling," said the bartender.
