I don't like getting haircuts. In fact, I'm trying to cut my own hair, but it's a mess. Does anyone else feel awkward having strangers being so close to you?

I'm with you, HATE HATE HATE them. always have. Dont like people touching my head, with the exception of my husband, and an osteopath who I trust. when I was a kid my mom wouldnt let me grow my hair long and I had these disasterous short cuts...that made me look like a boy ! that made things worse

As an adult I have a dermatitis through my hair and I pick constantly at the scabs, so my scalp looks like a war zone, and hairdressers always comment on it.

I remember seeing these kind of sizzor things adverised on tv a few years ago, they were a cross between clippers and sizzors...the idea was that one could cut their own hair. wish I could remember wot they were called..

Not close just don't trust they will cut it right don't want to have to walk home with a fed up haircut or something like that... I cut it myself is pretty easy when you get a technique book which I am amazed people screw peoples hair up - they must not be paying attention or are under something or just do it for the fun of it...

+ not paying 15 pound for something that’s so simple to do…

Females got it easier to cut they hair easy to hide a screw up in a hair style... unless you cut it too short and regret it....

I have cut my own hair for around five years. Yes, it is a mess at first but it can be learned fairly quickly. The most important thing is to go slow at first and really focus on what effect what you are about to do is going to produce. Multiple mirrors are also a must.

I put visits to the hairdressers off as long as possible, and chop my fringe myself until I really have to get a cut.
It's not so much the fact that someone is messing with my hair, which I don't like, but the small-talk, "where are you going on holiday, what are you doing at the weekend" stuff that I find awkward. If I could find a silent hairdresser, I'd be OK.

I'm the same as Starr,it's the small talk I find stressful.Don't get me wrong, the hairdressers
are friendly and I trust them, but there's so much banter and background noise that I struggle
to keep up with the conversation

I love haircuts!! I love people scratching, and touching my head! :D When I was just a baby, the only way my mom could get me to stop crying and fall asleep was to rub my head.

I love having my hair fiddled with but i don't like going to a salon because they are usually run by a bunch of trendy neurotypical women who are likely to think I'm weird. I found a lovely, friendly little place a while ago that wasn't intimidating at all. Unfortunately they went out of business after I'd been there just twice. Just my luck! :(

My hair has always been past my shoulders, and thick and full. For some reason, I don't want to make any special hairdos. It's okay with me as it is, I suppose. That, or I don't care enough about it either way. But my mother has told me so many times that I look disgusting that it has got to me by now. She has this thing about thick long hair, - she seems to think it should either lie very smooth, or else be tied back tightly and licked to my head, - and will tell me I'm ugly and like a homeless drunk or whatever. I pretty much grew up hearing that nearly every day. One of these days I'll cut that hair very short just so that nobody ever bothers me about it again.

Hate it. The smalltalk in between is too much for me. I've come to like having long hair too.

I always let mine go until I have to have it cut. I show up at the same chain-store haircutters, and say I'm here for my quaterly visit. The girl laughs, then looks at my account, and says, OH, it has been three months. Duh. I hate the chatter, and the fact that they rarely listen to how I want it cut.

I don't mind. The dentist is MUCH scarier.

Hmm.. I somehow got 'alopecia universalis' starting roughly 2.5 years ago.. I never have to see a hair dresser again!

The last year I got it cut, I was going to a Barber.. He had discussions with me, not small talk..

As well, when I went to the hairdresser for what would be my last time, she saw the beginning of my Alopecia (before I knew it, small bald patch on the back of my head) and actually stopped cutting my hair, went to the back and told people where they then laugh. I didn't know what they were talking about until my mother asked if she 'clipped me' with the clippers.

If you have a 'first choice' hair cutters, avoid them

I always think there is something more useful I could be doing with my time when I have a haircut. I don't like people pulling my hair about and I think I'd really struggle if my mum wasn't there to do the small talk part with the hairdresser :P
