I successfully made small talk yesterday. I went to Starbucks and was the only person in line and the girl working there asked me how my day was so far. I said fine, then managed to actually ask her back, how her day was, and she said fine, but that she was tired. And that was the opening, because she was actually honest. People usually just say fine or great and they're lying and I don't want to talk to them anymore because it's not interesting. But she said she was tired, which is interesting. So I asked her how long she'd been working today and she told me. It wasn't that long, but I understood what she was going through and tried to make a sympathetic smile. I think I pulled it all off because then I ordered my drink and she rang me up for a cheaper drink than I ordered and said I come in all the time.
Well good for you. The more you practice small talk the more it won't be such a bother for you either.
