This is proof that there needs to be more attention towards mental health care. I hope this child comes out ok.

This gunman has a bunker and has already shot dead one human.
I wonder what else is inside the bunker?

Saw this article already, from what was described of him in the article made me think he had it; although it never explicitly said it XD

I want to see this "bunker" he constructed.
Unfortunately, when individuals choose to design their own, they tend to neglect basic architectural features mandatory in commercially-built units/structures. Had he owned a commercially-built bunker, I'd say the best shot at entering from the outside would be to unbolt the blast door/ blast hatch (Panzertür/ Panzerdeckel). These are bolted in place around a reinforced steel frame (Swiss bunkers only have the blast hatch constructed in this manner - the blast door can be separated from the locking bolts by unbolting them from either the inside or outside). The blast hatch is used as an emergency escape when the main entrance is obstructed. In the event that an individual cannot open the door, there are self-rescue tools that allow the door to be unbolted from the inside. If these fail, rescue workers can unbolt the door from the frame by excavating the soil around the emergency exit and remove the bolts anchoring the door frame into the reinforced concrete. Being a structure he built himself, these features are not likely to exist, thus making it even more difficult for law enforcement to intervene.

Hopefully the child with AS will lecture him so much that the incessant factual knowledge on Vulcan society will force the criminal to commit suicide.

Seriously, thank you for the information....I have been concerned that he had just basically dug a big hole, 'roofed' it somehow, and that it might collapse at any time, killing them both.

Your post encourages some hope, if he did construct the 'bunker' properly.

The suspect has a constant line directly to the law enforcement if he wants to talk. He has also allowed provisions such as toys, potato chips, the boy's medicine, coloring books to be delivered to them.

The Feds should make something filled with a knock out gas (non fatal) that they can "deliver" in with other requests, then while they are unconcious they can rush in.

Dealing with someone who is irrational and very paranoid is very hard, especially with a hostage situation. If the suspect is having delusions they might end up having to "play into" the delusion in order to get the boy out safe. Since the suspect has been irrational a long time, he is not likely to rationalize or be logical as a normal criminal would be. They have to handle the case specifically.

Seriously, i doubt he will hurt or kill the boy as the suspect has made sure the boy is comfortable, and warm enough and has let law enforcement deliver items in. However these situations can be volatile is the mood of the suspect shifts.

Negotiations are being carried out through a 60 ft vent pipe that leads from the bunker! Thats so... wow.

I wonder why it doesn't say anything in the article about people protesting the media because of this. If the media didn't pounce on the opportunity to stigmatize the AS population right after the Sandy Hook tragedy, this wouldn't be happening right now. That bus driver would still be alive and that kid wouldn't be being held hostage right now. It's not of their doing, but it wouldn't have happened without them. The media is at least partially responsible for the many tragedies that have happened to people with AS, along with a few NTs, since the Sandy Hook tragedy, because they made the spark that started the fire. Probably the only reason they can sleep at night is because there are plenty of other people who share the blame for this. They don't acknowledge that they make a living by wrecking the lives of the innocent. Sadly, so many people go along with what the media says, because they like to contribute to wrecking peoples' lives just for kicks.

It sounds to me like that guy took the boy hostage because he had AS, because he associates it with bad things after the Sandy Hook tragedy.
