Could somebody explain this to me? I have autism myself, I read his interviews, and I actually thought: This guy did really good research and he really understands what autism is like! Autistic people are often caring people who just have problems in understanding other people.

I remark though that there are people at this website who don't agree with him or want to ask him questions because they aren't quite happy with what he says. Why is this?

Is that seriously why? For one, why should he be held accountable for his cousin's actions, and two, I'm fairly sure that movie is satirical.

Aside from his cousin, who he is not responsible for, he has expressed theories that some people on the spectrum find limited or offensive.

Ok, I assumed this too, but the reason why I opened this topic is because I want to know why, and I 'd like those people themselves to tell that here if it's possible.

He teaches those on the spectrum lack empathy and sympathy. We have no care or emotions for anyone.

His teaching is we are a danger to society, because we can do great harm and feel no remorse.

Whenever someone comes out and says, "Hey look, autism is this, this and this" then lay people look for exactly those same symptoms in an individual. If they don't see it then the person doesn't have autism. Here on WP they stress the spectrum view a lot because if you've met one person with Asperger's, you've met one person with Asperger's. You'd be surprised at the amount of family members who don't believe one of their own is on the spectrum because they don't resemble Adam, Rain Man, Snow Cake Mom, Dr. Spencer Reid or Sheldon Cooper.

Well I am not entirely sure I agree that autism is essentially the 'extreme male brain' and it seems that is the main theory he is known for based on what I've looked up so far. Never heard of the guy before to be honest, but yeah not so sure that is accurate, I mean is he claiming autistic females have a 'male' brain and also not entirely sure it is actually true that males with autism vastly outnumber females with it.....if anything I thought that was more questioned now days since people have realized autism might effect males and females a bit differently.

That theory would really only work for males with autism, or a female with a male brain who has autism....but what about a female with a typical female brain aside from the autism that has autism...how then does the extreme 'male' brain theory work. Also what about autistic people with high intelligence that don't excel in math and science as he suggests they are more likely to. I have been told I have high intelligence by teachers and mental health professionals yet I am not even sure I can do 5th grade level math.........and while I have lots of curiostiy and like to learn about things and how they work I've still never done to well in science classes because of the mathematical factor.

So I suppose I can see why some people might disagree, or question the accuracy of some of the research and claims.

But that is sociopaths. Not AS. Does he not differ between these? Is this guy for real? Now I'm getting scared, I know many already associate AS with lack of empathy and feelings and they couldn't be more wrong! I feel so much I have to shut myself away just to process it! However I do not express feelings the same ways as most NTs I'm learning.

His teaching is Sociopaths lack only affective empathy or sympathy, while aspies lack both affective empathy and cognitive empathy.

Oh well that's even better... way to make people with autism sound worse than sociopaths.

I'm starting to think HE is the one lacking empathy  We do not need more teachings like these, that's for sure! Increasing tolerance, understanding, acceptance and support, now there's the way to go. Mr Cohen may I suggest a change of paths...
