I don't play D&D anymore because I started playing World of Darkness and Shadowrun which are much better.

I gave up on AD&D, because for the most part never being able to find people who wanted to play because of all these new games coming out on the net.

I used to DM all the time and write my own adventures, now I just use my books and dice to help inspire me to write fantasy story's.

I used to collect AD&D dragons, I had collected over 120 types of dragons from the books and the dragon magazines I had collected.

(sigh), the good ole days. (shrugs)

I also play D&D based games like Icewindale and Dungeon Seige.

I've met some hardcore D&D players and they somehow seem very disconnected from reality. I'm talking about people who argue about star trek episodes, have cola and pizza as thier core diet, and commonly fart in public places. That's not to say all D&D'ers are like that but they certainly are in my area.

I stopped playing AD&D when Arcanum came out (published by a little company called Bard Games, was bought by Wizards back BEFORE they published a certain card game) - about 5 or 6 years before Arcanum became the core of what was called "The Atlantean World".

Then I was introduced to Champions, ShadowRun (which I ran as a GM for 6 years, 2 nights a week, before burning out because I never got to PLAY), and finally the World of Pointlessness (AKA: World of Darkness), which seemed to pretty much be all that anyone was playing for YEARS.

Now I have this great GURPS collection that I'd love to make use of, but don't have any other players to join with. I've even gone so far as to consider taking it to an online setting for weekly gaming sessions.

I wanted to play D&D, but never got to 'cause I didn't know how to start playing, and I didn't know how. But it sounds kinda like this star wars game i have, exept less strategic.

Damn, I put my D&D stuff somewhere... The last time I played was last year with my brother and the kid down the street. I remember my character being a halfling assassin.

I've never played D&D before but know a bit about it. Here's an interesting thing to consider: Your Axis 5 DSM score (your GAF) could correspond to your wisdom. Here are two possible equations/ways of estimating what you woudl START OUT as having:

For both of these methods turn your GAF into a percentage (for example, if it is 70 then it is 70% or .7 on a caculator, move the decimal two spaces to the left)

1. Knowing that generally widsom lies somewhere between 3-18 points in a starting functional character, multiply the percentage your GAF corresponds to by 15, then add three to whatever you just got. A GAF of 70 would equal a wisdom of 13.5 in this case.

2. Knowing that if you have a GAF of zero you are not at all functional, and as a character would be useless anyway, you would do better to work with a wisdom range of 0-18. For this method you simply multiply your GAF percentage by 18. A GAF of 70 would equal a wisdom of 12.6 in this case.

I am unsure which method is better here; however widom is the statistic which best corresponds here. Intelligence would come into play but would not directly correlate; you can be smart and still nonfunctional, and you can be dumb and function very well.

Of course from what little I know of GURPS you could biuld a character entirely from a full 5-axis evaulation alone, but that's tangential.

I am a jaded D&D player who inhabits the realms of the bygone era of AD&D 2nd edition (no 3e for me, thanks), particularly in the Planescape setting. Currently, I run a slow-moving RPG in that setting over at http://www.mistresslair.net/forums/

I also play computer RPGs, which can give me a real sense of Nostalgia. I haven't played a lot, as my PC is pretty old, but I've played and enjoyed the Baldur's Gate series. I liked Icewind Dale a bit less, and got pretty bored with Neverwinter Nights.

Planescape: Torment is certainly the best D&D based RPG that has ever been created, and probably one of the best RPGs ever made. It's one of the few games I can think of that contains a novelistic density of character, incident, and philosophical and thematic significance. You could study it as literature and write whole books on it, if it weren't so obscure. It also had some my favorite characters I've encountered anywhere (in literature, movies, etc.) and still moves me every time I play it.

The Fallout games are also both monumental in nearly every way. IMO, Fallout 1 probably deserves to be called the best RPG ever made. It's simply perfect.

Diablo and Dungeon Seige don't rate.

These are my stats (in AD&D 2nd ed.), roughly:

Race: Human
Gender: Male
Alignment: True Neutral (Chaotic Good?)
Class: 0th level (Cleric? Mage?)

Strength: 10
Dexterity: 9
Constitution: 12
Intelligence: 13
Wisdom: 12
Charisma: 8
