Well, tomorrow I have to do a 10 minute presentation that I'm not prepared for. Add that to the fact that I'm quiet and I always get extremely nervous during presentations, and you get a pretty much a guaranteed mess.

What I'd like to know is what you guys to do help you do better and be less nervous during presentations. Not just for me, but for anyone else who has trouble with these things.

When speaking in front of an audience, I pretend that I am speaking to the wall. Also, practice giving the speech in front of a mirror. There is nothing wrong of "winging it" on occasion as long you hit the major points.I tell some jokes because I have found that humor breaks the tension in the room.Make sure the jokes are clean ones. I use index cards to keep me on track with bullet points on it. Also get there early to compose yourself. I would like to wish you the best of luck. I have extreme confidence that you will pull through!! Let us know how things turned out.

Yeah, I agree with dimesiontraveler.

Just be confident in what you are saying, everyone gets nervous doing a presentation. Just don't be like me and get very upset when people are rude. Now THAT is a mess. :)

I had a similar problem, I tried zoning out the audience and instead gauge the expression of the professor to gain confidence regarding how well one has done on the presentation thus far.

I don't know how to help you because I absolutely adore public speaking. I'm nervous beforehand, but as soon as I get up and start talking, I'm in my element. It's a way for me to ramble on about my "special interests," and NT's respect me while I'm up there. I have the knowledge- they listen. This is why I'm thinking about being a professor. ;) Due to my dislike of eye contact, I usually look at the peoples' heads or mouths or, like others have said, at the wall. I wish you the best of luck, though! :D
