Communication and Listening Comprehension
I have been having difficulty with this a lot lately. :c It seems that sometimes, there is a point I mean to get across, but my words fail me and it just doesn't come out the way I meant.
This is particularly noticeable with other Aspies. While many people either seem to get my meaning or at least pretend to, with other Aspies, it turns into frustration for both parties involved. I come off as inconsistent and it sounds like I'm ignoring them, and I myself feel that I'm being very misinterpreted.
This really hurts because my best friend is an Aspie and I want to be able to have important conversations and share deep thoughts and feelings but when I try it just turns into me going "Pfft pfftpftt blahblah."
Does anybody have any advice on this? Or know of anything that might help me, or if there's even a word for this particular problem?
I subscribed to this thread back when you first posted it, but didn't write anything because I didn't feel like I had much to contribute, but since no one else has replied, I will give it a shot.
Like you, I have a lot of difficulty with communicating my feelings, especially out loud. I get very frustrated when I can't express an idea like I want to, and I always worry that people will misunderstand me.
Have you tried writing to your friend about your feelings and deep thoughts? I find that I am much better at writing than at speaking, and I think a lot of people with Aspergers are like that, too.

Your Aspie score: 120 of 200 ; Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 90 of 200
You seem to have both Aspie and neurotypical traits
Self-DX: Extreme Introvert, possibly with ADHD-Primarily Inattentive; Official DX: Generalized Anxiety Disorder
I think writing a letter would work too. If other Aspies are anything like me (and I'm not diagnosed so hey) they're probably more sensitive than most NT's. Like the poster above I have immense problems SAYING my feelings to other people, but I can conceptualise them pretty well in writing.
Has anyone tried using dictation software (like voice notes on the iPhone, or Dragon Dictate)? It's hilarious, at least for me. The words I'm writing, right now, come out naturally. When I speak words which relate to my feelings at the time or something I typically would need to write in text rather than just SAY, with the intention of them turning into text, my brain just gets confused and the software just gives up waiting for me
