Just once, for a few weeks, as a child, in the 80s... for assessment purposes. The diagnosis given was "adjustment disorder with mixed emotional features" and "Perfectionistic personality traits with some social isolation"... but I think it probably would've been an ASD diagnosis if it were done today (and they did mention many ASD traits in the report).

Other people in my family have been hospitalized for other reasons, though (depression, bipolar).

Twice in the same year, if I remember correctly. Other than receiving my diagnosis, it just disoriented me and scared me more than anything. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest kept playing in my mind.
