There's bittersweet endings, tragic endings, and happy endings. This thread is basically the opposite of Giftorcurse's Films with MASSIVE downer endings thread.

The Shawshank Redemption has one of the most satisfying endings in film history.

I thought "Being Flynn" had a satisfying ending considering how hopeless the story frequently seemed. It was based on the memoir "Another Bull***t Night in Suck City".

Cool! Somebody saw 'Being Flynn.' I often use films/stories like these to show aspiring writers that you don't have to have an extraordinary life to write into a memoir. This is Nick Flynn's story and it's relatively simple because having an alcoholic father is pretty commonplace. The writings of Charles Bukowski are not extraordinary either, yet he's been published and had films made of his work.

The Shawshank Redemption definitely has the most satisfying ending, but i would nominate the following endings:

Dog Soldiers - With his unit wiped out, as well as the titular werewolves, Private Cooper is confronted by the machiavellian Captain Ryan in a cellar, who has turned very hairy and savage. A useful distraction from border collie Sam, followed by Cooper stabbing Ryan with a silver letter opener and then a bullet to the head equals a very satisfying ending.

Batman Begins - Batman meets Lieutenent Gordon on the rooftops, discussing the future for Gotham. The Dark Knight is given a familiar playing card, promising to investigate as he disappears into the night. Satisfying, it brought the Bat back.

Trainspotting - Renton absconds with the 16,000 grand obtained from the heroin transaction, while the psychotic Begbie smashes up a hotel room in a fit of rage. It's satisfying because it shows Renton promising to go straight and live a normal life.

Steppenwolf

At the end he is denied usage of the magic theater for 24 hours for his crime of murdering the image of a girl with the image of a knife, and then laughed out of court. He finally gets the joke, and it ends with him spreading his arms upward and laughing.

I was pretty happy when Sucker Punch ended, but that's not really a compliment to the film.

Erin Brockovich has a good ending and is mostly good all the way through.
