For copious amounts of cannabis smoking:
link

I plan to go for a while, though it kind of sucks that people are worried about bombing crap because of that Boston bombing thing, which I admit I don't know much about. So does anyone else partake in such events and/or do you have an opinion on them.

A buddy of mine ( my gf's sister's bf) goes to smoke ins -including the Washington DC Smoke-ins on the Mall in Washington DC evey fourth of july.

Has for years.
None of us has ever joined him.

I get high once in a while myself but never got involved in it as a cause.

I went to a legalise cannabis rally a couple of years ago and in retrospect it was a pretty pointless endeavor. The law won't be changing here anytime soon. To the uneducated masses, cannabis is still the beginning of the inevitable downward spiral towards full time heroin addiction, which is frankly pathetic. Go to any Town/City in the UK on a Friday or Saturday night and you'll see exactly what the problem is, and it's most certainly not cannabis.

What is the point of having anti-drug laws. People doing drugs are harming themselves which they have a right to do. As long as they do not make public nuisances of themselves or operate dangerous machinery why should they be punished merely for using dope?

Yeah people aren't too knowledgeable about the topic a lot of times. I mean its never made me want to do heroin, in fact I think my cannabis use is one of the things that prevents me from resorting to crap like that. I will admit on rare occasions I might indulge in a bit of opiate use but not heroin.

It's funny how sometimes cannabis gets all the blame for being some terrible evil drug...when its nothing compared to some of the crap out there. But yeah the thing here wasn't about legalization since it is now legal to smoke for adults its just not legal to buy it, I guess they are still working on figuring out how to go about approaching that aspect. That particular 4/20 gathering happens every year, hopefully what happened this year wont stop it next year.

They shouldn't, though I'd argue drug use is not always harmful it depends on how, why and how much you use the drug. Though there's some drugs I wouldn't want to screw around with to begin with.

I totally agree, they shouldn't be and if someone wants to eat mud (literally!), it should be their choice to do so. I just find it depressing that the poison of society that is alcohol is both socially and legally acceptable, whilst cannabis is an illicit drug. It's pure hypocrisy! I agree that the anti-drug laws are fundamentally flawed, but I suppose the line has to be drawn somewhere, simply due to the overpowering nature of some addictions. I just don't know where.

I don't smoke cannabis nor have an interest, but as a child of alcoholics, I have to question why cannabis is feared so much when ALCOHOL ruins families and now I face a lifetime of PTSD because of the abuse I endured?

What kind of judgement is that? I don't really see the reason to demonize marijuana. People smoke it anyway so it's not like the law is eradicating cannabis use or something.

Sorry I didn't know the nature of the gathering, the link was missing. Legal to smoke? wow, that is progress! Is that just in Colorado? or is it nationwide? I can't see that happening here, certainly not this century!

Yea, I like amphs on very rare occasions. I don't like drinking, so it's nice to have the option from time to time. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone, but on occasion, they're good for me. They make me feel happy and social, which are not words I would usually use to describe myself.

Oh that's all good, I wasn't terribly specific....I will have to check on the link, I thought it worked. It's legal to smoke in Washington to, but that is about it so far except for Medical Marijuana. There are more states that allow medicinal use of marijuana but with colorado and Washington its any adult over 21 can smoke and have up to a certain amount. I have to admit I am a little bit suprised things have come so far........especially considering cannabis is still federally illegal, and two states have legalized it regardless.

What does the 420 part mean anyway? I don't feel like asking anyone else as I feel like this is one of the things I should just know.

It reportedly was police code for drug possession, but proved to be false. Best origin was a 1971 meetup time of 4:20 to smoke the pot.
