Why does show written by geniuses aided by scientists and mathematicians gets canceled and stuff like Teen Mom and Honey Boo Boo stay on the air?

I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

Because Honey Boo Boo sells....and costs less to produce.

I've never seen HBB or TM, but the advertisments are enough to say that I'm not their target demographic.

I'm not a Futurama fan, but it IS better than Honey Boo Boo and Teen Mom...

Teen Mom is especially dumb. What if it makes girls get pregnant just to get on TV? I mean, it shows the hardships a little bit, but that's not enough to dissuade some people from making stupid decisions.

AGAIN?!

*sigh*, and yet family guy lives on to suck another season.

Why is it that cartoons that get cancelled before their time remain cancelled (or get re-cancelled as the case may be) while ones that are cancelled right were they should have been get brought back and live on forever?

Anyone want to join me in a Calculon-style "NO!"?

It kind of makes sense. Instead of Futurama going the way of The Simpsons with increasingly unfunny episodes, they end it without overstretching it's time. The article said they were open for more episodes, not right now, but maybe in the future. They are even making a series finale, I wonder how that one will go.

I wasn't a huge fan of the new Futurama when it re-aired on Comedy Central to be honest and I just stopped watching. I guess I'm sad that there's no chance for more episodes to be released that might be good, but not really. Pretty much all the shows I like are long dead or not good anymore, but then again I don't watch a lot of TV anymore.

They still got half a season left. I hope they at least give the finale a satisfying conclusion.

R.I.P., Futurama. You were the only TV show I ever liked.

I'll take the minority position here....

Futurama was a show that really got launched because of it's creator. It's humor was over the top, and never made much sense. It remained a niche show for years, and while it was funny, it never had the popular break-through that Family Guy did.

Simpsons survives because it's humor is'nt as over the top, and they make far more money on DVD sales and syndication rights than they pay out in production costs.

I'm sure people will miss not having Milhous to kick around any more.....

Since my internet sometimes struggles with links I'll admit I didn't check the article. Hearing that they'll give the series a dignified conclusion makes me feel loads better. I thought this was something along the lines of the injustice which was dealt Invader Zim, which was cancelled when its final season was almost finished. All the writing and voice-acting was done. The animation was all that was left.

The 2010 season was really good, with the body switching episode being one of the series's best. The following season was much more hit and miss though. My cable went kaput last year so I haven't seen any of the 2012 or 2013 season yet, but maybe it is better to end it before it asks to be ended.
