Quote:
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Internal Revenue Service apologized Friday for what it acknowledged was "inappropriate" targeting of conservative political groups during the 2012 election to see if they were violating their tax-exempt status.

IRS agents singled out dozens of organizations for additional reviews because they included the words "tea party" or "patriot" in their exemption applications, said Lois Lerner, who heads the IRS division that oversees tax-exempt groups. In some cases, groups were asked for lists of donors, which violates IRS policy in most cases, she said.

Looks like they got caught with their hands in the cookie jar. They claim it wasn't done out of 'political bias' of course but what is could it be? Tea Party groups have been talking about being audited like this since 2009, I doubt it started just with the 2012 election. I believe Richard Nixon use to use IRS audits against his political enemies, Nixon and Obama share a lot of similarities to be honest. Wonder how many times the SPLC has been audited?

Doesn't surprise me. :?
The way I look at it that's another reason to clip the wings of the IRS and go to some kinda federal sales tax or whatever to collect revenue instead of taxing income.
That would cut the size and power of the IRS way down and decrease it's ability to be weaponized by corrupt politicians.

The FBI never apologised to Occupy Wall Street for calling them terrorists and not informing them of a plot to have snipers shoot prominent members and of hiding the identities of the culprits and not taking action against them at all. This shows that the Teabaggers are protected as always... as they serve the establishment.

You shouldn't insult Nixon like that. He at least learned the facts before lying about them.

In all fairness, the tea baggers are filled up with idiots who insist taxation is illegal. It can be argued there was a legitimate cause to audit them based on their own rhetoric.

In some circles that is political persecution.

If racist groups say they're going to beat up of kill racial minorities, don't the authorities have the right to check them out? Audits are the way the IRS checks people out.

The Tea Party is about reducing government power, not killing off races.

I think Kraichgauer's point is that people who are openly disdainful of taxes are probably more likely to avoid paying their fair share.

Have you read that MIAC report from a couple years ago?

I think there's quite a difference between an act of violence and cheating on taxes.
At least now we know where your priorities really are.........

I think you know I was only using that as an example. I could just have easily said, being that MBLA (Man-Boy-Love Association) promotes pedophilia, the authorities would have a reasonable assumption to investigate them for that that crime. Would you have preferred that comparison?

IRS audits have long been a tactic by our government to harass it's political enemies.

Too late to backpedal now.

They'll audit Tea Party and 'patriot' groups but refuse to audit the fed. Absolutely sickening.
