In Dire Need of Help Finding Child Psychiatrist in Oklahoma
My son's Psychiatrist and Psychologist worked out of the same office. The Psychiatrist decided to close up shop, so my son lost both his Psychiatrist and Therapist with about 3 weeks notice. Add to that, they had no idea where to refer me. I live in Northeastern Oklahoma, and this was the only Psychiatrist in town. We have been to another therapist I really liked, but she retired and another therapist I was not happy with. We have nowhere to go. My son's pediatrician does not know where to refer us either, but said we will likely have to go to Tulsa (45 miles away) which isn't a problem. The thing is, my son's Psychiatrist put him on ADHD medication to help with some of his issues, and it did help for a while, but now we are not so sure if they are still working and I want to take him off the meds. He has to be slowly titrated off the meds over a 4 week period, so we can't just stop. My son's pediatrician said he is not comfortable taking him off the meds and said we really need to see a Psychiatrist. I honestly just can't find anyone...
I have been looking online and found tons of psychiatrists in Tulsa, but I am becoming overwhelmed with information. I seem to keep running in to inpatient psychiatric hospitals, but not run-of-the-mill doctor's offices, which is what I want. I don't need a hospital. I really need some help finding a suitable doctor in the Tulsa area. I am willing to drive 2 hours to Oklahoma City if I can find a good Psychiatrist out there. At this point, I really just need my son off this medication and stopping cold turkey is not an option. This is what I need:
Psychiatrist that will see a child as young as 6 years old
In the Tulsa, OK area, but willing to travel to Oklahoma City
Preferably with PDD/Autism experience
Accepts SoonerCare (Medicaid) insurance
If anyone can help me find someone, it will be greatly appreciated. I feel stuck at the moment, like I can't find what I need. Thank you in advance.

I've also found that doing a search via your insurance is a good way to go: at least then you know you are fully covered.
