Anyone name their car? The first I heard of this, a co-worker had named her car "Dorothy Dodge". I have had "Mork Merc" and currently have "Hathor Honda".

My dad's first car was a fiat 600 and we called her Phyllis! My husband and I had an ford cortina and we called her Leyla, cos of her number plate. Our second car was called Hippy Happy, number plate inspired too! Our third car was called Cherie Cat, her number plate had cat in, we were able to choose it! I wish we could have hung on to that! This one now is called Cherry because of the colour!
I didn't have an automatic washing machine when we first got married and when we did get one, I called it Betty! Inspired by the brand name I think! :)

I had an very old, high maintenance, Mercades in Germany I called Brunhilda. The running joke at work was that whenever anyone asked where I was they would respond 'look under his car'.

Come to think of it, I did have a car called P.O.S. - piece of s**t.
I wanted to put a sign above the driver's door that said "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here".

Like some of the above people I also only have a name for my cars when they aren't working right.

My current car's being nameless for all these years is a kind of backwards tribute to it, I guess. I need to look up the Greek/Roman/etc. for "will never die."

Mine is called "The Jeep". Sometimes "Pain in the ass Jeep", sometimes "POS Jeep", but most always "The Jeep". Around other Jeeper's it's called the WJ (body style).

I like that - a kind of backwards tribute. I had a friend who named her car Ashley after Ashley Wilkes in "Gone With the Wind" because he was reliable and always came through. That was probably her most troublesome car, though.

I got stuck with green paint for my new vehicle (long story short, it was this specific shiny new car or nothing at all.)

Once the words "the Green Machine" came out by accident, the name stuck forever. :D

^^ I like your green machine. I'd like to have a non-bland color car. :)

in 2006 we got an '89 silver Volvo 760 I used to call Helga until smoke started coming out of the tailpipe when she idled; then I called her Grandma. Then we got a really ugly '86 gold Pontiac Bonneville, one of the really square and boxy ones, and I called him Grandpa. So we had Grandma and Grampa. Grandma died and her corpse is awaiting reanimation in our driveway. We sold Grampa to a guy who wants to lower it and put fancy rims on it and paint it lime green and put in one of those horrible thumpy bass stereos in it.

The car we have now ('12 Suzuki SX-4, white) is so dull and bland that it doesn't merit a name beyond "The Car".

The first car in my family was called "The little red rocket" and later Pency by me after a pony I got to know and then back to the little red rocket.

The car we have now is just called The Green.

If I ever get my vintage VW Beetle I will name her something more name-like than the two above.
