Caveat emptor, for sure.
I want to be encouraged. I know I have a lot to offer an employer; if workplace politics just weren't such a problem and they knew I wasn't being stupid or snide when I asked what they want me to do next, I wouldn't have a problem.
I'd never make it in management, but I wouldn't want to.
Unfortunately, I see a lot of potential for dark underbelly here. Goodwill likes to say they employ the otherwise unemployable; I have talked to several handfuls of Goodwill employees who say that what they do is more like exploiting the mildly disabled. Do others want to jump on that bandwagon?? "Hey, hire an autie! They don't need to socialize!! They don't need time off!! ! They literally live for work!! !! And if they get mouthy, just remind 'em that no one else wants 'em..."
And-- What's an Aspie going to do at Freddic Mac?? I mean, granted they really could have used someone who would crunch the numbers and then not worry about what anyone thought or wanted to hear, but-- what's an Aspie going to do at Freddie Mac?? Blow the whistle the next time they try to defy the laws of mathematics??
Acceptance... just a little more acceptance, a little more tolerance, a little patience for people who are trying to fit in and just aren't good at it, a little less rigid definition of what is normal and good... Would be so nice...
Not holding my breath. Sorry-- no matter how much better my mood these days, cynicism remains.
That could be a good thing, of course...
