Not sure when this software will become available (and I'm wondering if they are thinking about a teen and kid version) but I can see where this would be incredibly useful: http://phys.org/news/2013-06-automated- ... video.html

This is so awesome! I have been wondering about how the development of AI might help with autism, also. If you they figure out how to break up the complicated components of social interaction for computers, I have been thinking the process would have to be useful for people with autism.

Shasta, I don't know if this is available where you are, but we were really helped by this (very expensive) program: http://www.sst-institute.net/

It's a similar idea. We were able to access it via our healthcare provider, but you can buy it outright if you have the means - the board game isn't as good (in fact, I'd skip it) but the computer game was really, really helpful. A positive side effect: it helped my husband and I see our son's specific disabilities very clearly for what they were. One step in us becoming better parents.
