Hey everyone, first post here in this subforum, and I am wondering whether or not there is a group of martial artists here or not. I myself do Chuka Southern Praying Mantis Kung Fu, and have been a member of the school taught by the individual that did the choreography for Toph.

I did Aikedo for several years 3 nights a week, until my collage studies forced me to chose my time management more carefuly. I continued doing practice on my own for about 10 years. I still do practice at times, just to keep my skills up, but not as dedicated as I once was.

You'll find tons of these threads - seems like lots of aspies gravitate toward martial arts, for self defense and coordination and also because you can take it at a custom pace rather than being thrown out for not hitting the ground running so to speak.

Presently I'm a red-belt (4 1/2 years now) in a system that's a blend of Kali/Arnis/Panantuken/Kuntao/Wing Chun (all of that pretty much falls under Kuntao and Kali though). I also had the great fortune of getting my own wooden dummy downstairs - I don't know the full Ip Man form but at least 3/4 of it - wonderful for learning center line, passing the elbow, etc. albeit it really helps to have an instructor who can expand on what's there, ie. the wooden dummy and really any of the Wing Chun and Kuntao forms that are worth their salt are both visually a bit ugly but also have an incredibly amount of stuff sort of zipped/condensed within them.

First post ever for me.

I've been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for nearly 5 years and am a Purple Belt. I love Grappling overall and play around with some Wrestling/Judo/Sambo/Catch as Catch Can during training; having a massive DVD collection helps me always work on something new.

Never enjoyed the striking arts much but I have tons of respect for those who are experienced in Muay Thai and Boxing. I have been greatly interested in Kali/Arnis/Escrima as of late, seeing people like The Dog Brothers go at it with an array of weapons is amazing and I have so much respect for their instructor Dan Inosanto.

The Martial Arts have helped me so much. I have an outlet to honestly express myself through creative human movement in a loving and (healthy) competitive environment. It's opened doors where there were only walls before, plus it's just so cool tying that belt around your waist and partaking in something that's so human. Gah it makes me giddy.

I've been practicing Shotokan for a few years and love it. Surprisingly, sparring is my favorite part, and it just makes me really happy.

I have issues with the religious aspects of most arts. And I have issues with butt odors with the grappling arts. Additionally, when I had to temporarily stop lessons due to financial problems, the instructors completely ignored my calls and emails (only called or wrote once every few months but had important questions). Given that these instructors were supposedly devoted Christians, this disenchanted me to their disciplines and their flavor of "god".
