Technically a Mac is a PC, it's a Personal Computer :L That is all I meant by it, I didn't mean a Windows machine.

Yeah I was planning on buying a quad core 64 bit AMD processor in 2008. They should be available some time this year with better prices in 2008. AMD and Intel are in a price war so it going to be good for the PC market.

Single core AMD 64 3200+. :(

Getting quad-core Mac in a few months, Octa-core if Apple put 2 dual-cores in machines before then.

What interests me is how much software fully exploits the additional cores?

I have the AMD 64 4200+ X2, but i dont think im taking full advatage as i only have 1 HDD, which i assume causes a bottleneck most of the time.

Im told you need multiple HDDs with a clever management strategy (ie data in one, installations in another etc) to reap the benefits of X2.

I already have a AMD Athlon64 X2+3800, but am really looking forward to quad core. Being able to perform CPU intensive work with multi-threaded apps on multiple cores is one of the best things to happen in a long time. I'm looking forward to multi core GPU's in the future since I'm also a gamer.
