I'm new here, and please excuse me if i am out of line, but am i the only one bothered by the pictures of Alex Plank all over the forum? It's kind of distracting.

I can't see any of them, but I use Adblock and a host of other stuff to make surfing less distracting.

Where do you see them?

I don't see them either but my computer blocks out a lot too.

I'm not bothered by them at all. Plus I don't really see them unless I scroll all the way down.

There have been threads about it before. I'm not bothered by his pics at all. One small pic at the top plus a bigger one at the very bottom. He looks good. There are many OTHER ads that annoy me to the point where I impulsively close the window - sneaky dating site ads with pics of sleazy-looking women. I have no idea why people complain about the innocent pic of Alex when there are many other ads/pics that are really annoying. My guess is that that's because this is Alex's website.

Have you noticed that sometimes the headshot of Alex is there and sometimes it is not?
You may also notice that the sections of the page where the headshots sometimes appear are at other times occupied with advertising.

My assumption is that there are times when no advertising has been purchased or communications with the ad server are down and the image of Alex is a default substitute.

It's interesting to hear how many are disturbed by it. I was thinking it was a really nice shot--good lighting, well exposed. He looks serious, smart and kind of cool, at least in my possibly warped perception.

I suggest that you accept it as part of the programmed functioning of Alex's site and pay it no further thought.

I find it kind of annoying. I've been on other forums and they don't seem the need to have a big brother looking picture of the owner of the site just looking at you intensely every time you scroll down, and especially when you submit a message.

I find it a bit egotastical. (I know it's not a real word)

Gives the impression the site is just merely an "egotastical" extension of the man than a community. Would like it much better if say a Wrong Planet Logo was there instead.

What I wonder is why they often have the same picture of him at the top of the page when most of the time, the banner ad at the top is also the same picture of him?

Either drop the picture at the bottom of the page, or use different pics of him at the bottom of the page, change it up a little. I understand that Wrong Planet and all the things associated with it (Autism Talk TV, his speeches, activism etc) are his career, he is Wrong Planet essentially, but they could change it up some.

Yeah, but does anyone find it odd that autistics have issues with eye contact and here is this guy basically staring the s**t out of you every time you do anything on the forum? I find it kind of insensitive let alone 100% unnecessary.

Are threads about Alex's picture going to be a weekly thing now?

I don't see anything wrong with it. It's his site, he thought it up and created it and runs it and all that. He probably thought it was a really good picture of him, which it is, and he wanted to put it there. He probably forgot about changing it to something else. He has every reason to be proud of what he's done and he's doing and the fact that he has AS and was able to do all that on top of it, plus get really good professional pictures made rocks.

I think he should put his picture wherever he wants to on here. It's not like he's all over the place. There are no little Alex icons by each forum or anything. I do think he should change it to a newer one though. I'm sure that shot was one of many and I'd personally like to see them.

I like the picture, and I like the picture more now that it has become part of 1984, like like like.
