Tool's alright by me. I loved their cover of "Demon Cleaner" by Kyuss.

I also have the "string tribute to Tool" cd which I adore. It always makes me want to learn how to play violin.

They're unique. Plain and simple. Bands like them, Alice In Chains, Nine Inch Nails, and probably a handful of others were truly inspired by their own introspect on their own realities and the realities of the world around them. From an artists standpoint its one thing to listen to someone else's works and just take them at face value but another to try and imagine being the person who's feeling these things and coming up with these musical ideas and realizing that you absolutely need to get it out there and make it happen because the things you want to do not only haven't been done but because they've got a razor sharp depth and intelligence that should never be hidden.

With Tool its more than even just being a rock band - its the way the moods, ideas, lyrics, and all that came together. Something about dark and surreal music tends to trigger something at least in my own mind that seems to be a connection to a reality much greater and much more epic than we can really find in the world around us, something that almost seems needed to validate the existence of such a reality even if its only a reality in the minds of the musicians themselves or the people truly feeling their music.

For me I thought their first 3 cds were great, kinda stopped fully following em after Aenima but it seems like they had the same cycle as most bands or musicians - you only have so much of that built up in you and when you feel like you've really expressed it and you hit that point of contentment you really have a hard time summoning up that same energy anymore. That type kinda came around for them and I really see 10,000 days as testament to that - they're kinda done at this point but keeping it together and continuing to make the music more for the fan base or just for the love of doing what they do as musicians.

Oh yeah, and Adam Jone's videos - dark light at its finest. Gives a great point of reference for the emotions really driving their sound.

I argee they have declined since Aenima. "Sober" and "Schism" are the best songs Tool ever made.

Back in the days I'd smoke hash and listen to their songs "Lateralus" and "Reflection".

Very spiritual songs...

Oh, "The Patient" is cool as well. Anything from the lateralus album.

I like them, but I like A Perfect Circle better because APC has more atmospheric, synthetic elements. Tool to me, is much less interesting to listen to from the standpoints of mood and atmosphere.

Ahr. I don't get what some fans have against Lateralus. The actual song Lateralus, plus The Patient, Parabol/a, The Grudge and Reflection are all good enough tracks to make it at _least_ as good as Aenima =\

10,000 Days, I could understand. Its not bad... theres just... less of it.

I think 10,000 days was the decline.

Laterlaus is in my opinion, their best album to date.
But everyobdy have different relations to the music, and what draws one person to a bands music may be different to another person. And that's also why I think hit music is pointless, because you can't tell anyone that "This music is good because many people listen to it". Everybodys muse is different.

So TOOLS best album is whatever you think it is.

Yes he is.

Anyway, I'm more into A Perfect Circle than Tool, but I have Lateralus on my computer and I really like it. "Schism" and "Ticks And Leeches" are both awesome, and "Parabol" has a really cool ambient sound to it. I haven't given them as much love as I should (probably because I don't like the whole filler track thing they do), but they're awesome.
