Im 11 and I study religion. Will that help me in life?

Hi Iv'e been studying religion and certain parts in history.

My intrest started when i went to a C.A mission, felt more open to people and their beliefs
And Then I started studying different beliefs yet not practicing them ( Im a Protestant Christian)

I learnt why and how their beliefs started, Including Buddhism, Islam, Judaism, Christianity,
I started doing more research by looking things up on YouTube,
Including stories of people who went from one spirituality to another.

I also read books .

Do you think this is a good topic to study?

I am a gifted child and I just want to dig deeper in these things.

More or less any topic is a good topic for an intellectually curious mind to study.

Only if you want to teach religion to others, or teach others to hate religion.

I recommend studying Science, Technology, Engineering, or Medicine (STEM courses) instead, especially if you are truly "gifted".

History of religion and neuroscience of religion seem like good areas to study insofar a they enlighten one on the human condition.

Religion is a perfectly worthy subject to study, and studying it independently at a young age is a great idea. It isn't essential but it certainly helps. As you grow older you'll find it enlightens you on a lot of behaviour and customs too, as well as giving cultural enrichment and giving you a sensitivity towards religions that many don't, and some will refuse to, have.

Any topic you are fascinated with is a good topic of study. The person who tried to steer you into science, technology and math presumably thought it would be easier for you to get a job in those fields--but you are ELEVEN and should pursue your own interests. If not now, when? (By the way, that's a famous religious quote--do you know who said it?)

I started studying religion when I was the same age as yourself (11). I am now a sociologist of religion and a college professor.

Religion would probably be better off left to self-study. Put the bulk of your educational efforts into studies that will lead to a marketable profession that will put a roof over your head.

Oh, it wouldn't have to be the "bulk." Just the minimum amount to get into a marketable profession. The bulk can be what you like.

By the way, there are people who make tons of money off of religion. If you can convince at least 10 people to give you at least 10 percent of their income on a regular basis, then you're set.

As the OP is only 11 years old I suggest she studies whatever she likes at that age. Whatever interests her. There will be plenty of years ahead when she'll need to study practical things to help her career. A little general study of this and that may help her to decide what career to pursue in the future. The best advice I can give her is to keep asking questions and find out about as many different things as possible. Beware that not everyone will give you the truth or be honest though... especially within the realms of religion. Keep asking questions.

Yeah, but give her a few years of study and reflection to arrive at that conclusion.

Studying religion is great, it opens your mind to new ideas...
...however don't expect to make it into a career.

I studied religion at your age, then I went on to take religious studies and philosophy in college, I wanted to go to get my doctrine but it wouldn't have gotten me a job so as much as I loved the subject I decided to drop it - I don't regret doing so.

Studying is fine...just don't make the mistake believing in it. Otherwise, you will be wasting you will be wasting your life.

This and politics as well.

I spot a lot of "government backed religion" in the so-called "diversity" training pushed in government programs because I know what different religions teach and know when a "secular" program is just a mask for a religious agenda.

Politics is the same. If it embraces the planks of fundamental socialism, then it is socialism...no matter what they want to call it.

Those who DON'T know the details fall for all the fancy language and misdirection.
