Asperger's and low self-confidence are holding me back!
I really feel my Asperger's and low self-confidence are holding me back from pursuing a career in social work! I know it shouldn't be that way, but it is. I'm also afraid the people who know I'm an aspie (except my family and close friends) will reject this profession for the very same reason. My Voc Rehab counselor also warned me about going into social work since it doesn't pay so well. Finally, I'm also worried that my lack of experience in the field will hinder me from getting into any of the 7 schools I'm applying to for grad school.
On another note, someone on another forum here (won't say the name), said I shouldn't go into social work because its not a good fit for someone with Asperger's! That lowered my self-confidence even more!
The only thing you shouldn't go into is what you don't want to.
But you must be prepared to face any consequences of your actions : success or failure.
I hope to sound not too much like Yoda but every man, aspi or not, is built through his own experiences. Only the luckies are born self-confident, the others build their self-confidence on these very experiences.
So try whatever you feel the need ! Good luck !

I also feel being an introvert is holding me back. In the past, people have told me to go into all kinds of professions, including library science, which I have no desire to do because I don't like to read first and foremost, and because libraries are practically being replaced with digital and elibraries!
No offense, but these people don't know what goes on inside my head!
