I came across a study again that I read sometime ago, about having
almost twice the odds of being on the spectrum if your mothers father
was over fifty, when your mother was born.

How many here had older grandfathers on your moms side?
My moms dad was 50 when mom was born.

My maternal grandfather was in his 40s when my mum was born.

Could you present the study?

Considering the age gaps in my family and the fact of human lifespan's uptick in the past century, I don't think 50y.o.a. is necessarily the tipping point for this effect to take hold.

My mom's dad was 55 when she was born. I'd also like to see the study.

For a dad, it's somewhat typical to bear children in his 50s. My HS principal became a dad around his late 50s and his wife was only around mid 30s...I think fertility in males will never diminish. On the news, a 96 year old became a dad and became the 'world's oldest father' just recently. He also had another baby at 94....

I don't know exactly how old my grandfather was when my mum was born but he was not very young. My mum is the youngest of his six children and she didn't like it when some people thought he was her grandfather when she was a child.

But I believe that my autistic blood comes from my father's side regardless of my mum's and her father's age difference. I have quite a few odd/weird/autistic-like relatives on my father's side.

I thought I wrote your reply. :D It's exactly what I would have said. My mom was adopted so we don't know much about her family. We did know she's the 6th child. We also got the autism from my dad's side.

Both sets of grandparents were in their mid-twenties when my parents were born. My parents were in their early twenties when I was born.

My grandfather was younger.

But my theory to this simply is, that ppl on the autism spectrum tend to have children later.

My mum's dad was about 20 when my mum was born. He was somewhere between 19 and 23, with 20 being my best guess.

Thank you for fixing the link gretchyn. :D

from the article:
"Whether grandpa was on the mother’s side or the father’s side of the family didn’t seem to make much difference."
