I've only seen a few episodes of HBO's original series Dexter, but I really liked it. It's about a man named Dexter who kills people(no one knows this), but only bad people, and also works as a forensic investigator. The show is really good because Dexter appears to have no emotions whatsoever and doesn't like intimacy or romance. In one episode his father has to explain to him why people smile for photos even when they aren't really happy.

I was just wondering if anyone else saw and/or related to this show, especially the way other's regard Dexter as emotionless and eccentric.

Just a note: Dexter is from ShowTime, not HBO (same thing though basically). Yeah I could really relate to some of dexter's qualities on the show... Some people thing I'm a bit of a psychopath in real life too  I watched the first 5 episodes, but got bored because the plot was waning. They missed a few opportunities to make things interesting. Did you finish watching the first season? I want to know if it turned out good.

I really liked the show. Even though he was a serial killer, they made him likable. I liked Michael C. Hall when he was on Six Feet Under too. The finale was really good. I won't give away the ending just incase people are going to rent it when it comes out on DVD.

Oh, sorry Showtime!! ! I always get those mixed up.

No, I didn't finish the first season, but I have it on demand so maybe on a rainy day I'll watch a few.

I also thought that a lot of possible plot points were not explored, I wish they had done more with it, I had hopes after the first few episodes.

Same here. I was like, "It got moved to HBO?" I loved that show many many years ago...then they changed the team behind it and the animation and stories suddenly started to suck...heh.

I watched the whole first run, and *definitely* saw some AS things in his character.

There'll be more episodes starting in April.

I agree with what you said about plot points not being explored. The first episode was great, but after that, there were too many episodes where they took a very interesting plot scenario, and then copped out at the end of the episode by wrapping it up in a way that would never happen, and at the same time sabotaging what would otherwise could have had me hooked on the show for the entire season. I guess the writers aren't as good as some of the people that have worked at HBO.

Whatever you may say about the show's writers, they're still far better than the guy who originally wrote the book, Darkly Dreaming Dexter. I'll give it to him, it's a great premise for a book, but it's horribly written, and - even worse - the story arc is actually quite terrible once it deviates from the show. Let's just say he ends up s----ing in his own back yard. When you realize what the show's writers had to work with, you might think more favourably about their writing talents.

It was definately my favorite show during it's run. The realism issues didn't bother me, the show is dark, quirky, escapist fun. :)

The show is okay but still better than most and not as good as THE WIRE.

I watched the whole first season on DVD and it's my favorite new show in quite some time.

I will however concur with the poster who stated that it is not as good as The Wire. Of course, such a show does not exist to my knowledge.

i think the show was great, watched season one and waiting for number two !
i could really identify with some of dexters characteristics, his lack of emotions and genereal interest in blood/killing.
the story is interesting but i can agree to that there was something.. out of ways.. cant really put my finger on it.
great show. ! :D

Love this show :) And I've had the same thoughts as you have, but, he's more of a psychopath, than AS (or maybe now i've realized why AS was formerly classed as autistic psychopathy). He has alot of AS-traits though. The character development and story is just too intruging. I think in season two that they've added alot of sexual scenes just to get viewers, doesn't really add anything to the plot.

I hope Doug gets what he deserves :)

Great show. Amazingly well scripted.
Obviously not better than The Wire, but what TV show is?
