It seems the entire series took a massive turn towards the silly when the 3rd one came out. The first one was great specially for it's low budget, the 2nd was also really good. The 3rd was just kind of a rehash and by god the fourth one was all kinds of dumb. That family had to be extremely rich. The girl had an expensive laptop in every room, and the scenes of her running away while the freaking laptop were just dumb as hell. It would have been one thing if she had a cheap handi-cam with her. But nope, they had her run away from a killer demon while holding a heavy mac book.

I haven't seen them, but I plan on it.

Low budget worked for the original Halloween.

The whole paranormal / myth & magic / fantasy genre has been overdone.

Bring back Firefly!

I think the original was one of the scariest horror films ever made. All the rest have been just letdowns, as they tried too hard to try explaining why things were happening (witch's coven, pact with demons), which in my opinion only serves to detract from a storyline that had in part depended on a sense of helplessness that comes with not understanding "the why."

The hand-held camera / found footage genre always has that dumb quirk. These terrible and life-threatening events are happening but somebody still has to be filming.
What annoys me is that they are always sold with an 'element of truth' ring attached to it. Like the beginning for the films would say something like: "The footage you are about to see was highly classified" or "this is the footage they didn't want you to see." How dumb do they think people are?

I watched the first one. I noticed how it was entirely 'Found Footage' or seen through a video camera. I understand they are all like that.

The series got stale fast. VHS, and especially VHS 2 do a much better job with the found footage genre.

I especially enjoyed VHS - great horror anthology.

Apparently, the spin-off "The Marked Ones." takes a massive turn for the stupid.

The kids from the marked ones end up time traveling to the first movie, which is why Katie screamed at the end. (Yeah, it's pretty dumb.. The series was better when Katie screamed because she was possessed at the time and just screwing with Mikah)

Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones is being released to home media in April. I understand there will be another one.

I don't think that I have mentioned this yet, but I quite like the series. I was introduced to the series from being invited out to watch the 4th movie at the cinema, and found it quite enjoyable. I watched the rest of the series from 1st up after that, and now own the first four in a DVD pack. And I watched The Marked Ones the day it came out in Australia, although it was not as scary as the others, but there were enjoyable bits like the basement, I would say it suffered from being only as a camcorder being carried around instead of fitted cameras like the others, which I think built a lot of tension. I am happy to hear that there is a proper sequel (5) coming out later this year.

Oh, and I actually really liked the ending and how it tied into the first movie.

I am a big horror movie fan and I was eager to watch the first Paranormal Activity Movie. I didn't like it, at all. Suspense and tension were poorly built. Acting was bad and the characters were not at all interesting. From there, it has pretty much gone downhill.
