There is only one song that I know of that deals with the issue of autism, and that is "Solitary Shell" by my favourite band, Dream Theater. It's a great song but it doesn't necessarilly describe typical autistic symptoms very accurately.

Anyone know of any other songs that deal with autism or aspergers?

It does not deal with autism/ AS but I think the song "I am a rock" by Simon and garfunkeul descriibes AS good.

I have not heard that song in years.

Back before I was diagnosed (or knew anything substantive about Autism) I would say to myself 'hey, that sounds like me!' whenever I heard 'Solitary Shell'.

Sorry, but I lack any songs to contribute.

Absolutely. I also see aspects of AS in their song "The Sound of Silence".

I doubt this is iontentionally AS but:

"In the morning I awake
And I try to remember
What is love, and what is hate,
the calculation's error

"What is love and what is hate? refrain
And how does it matter?
Is to love just a waste?
and how can it matter?

"As the dawn begin to break,
I had to surrender,
the universe will have its way,
Too powerful to master

refrain

most likely has nothing to do with AS, but The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary reminded me of it.
Lyrics were something like "..and the world drags me down"

It's not about AS, but there's an old Lightening Seeds song . . . lyrics are something like:

You don't know what to do/So do anything you like/You're never gonna be like all those fools/Don't ever change

The chorus of Got Me Wrong by Alice in Chains usually makes me smirk, too.

I've always thought Pi by Kate Bush had to be about Aspergers. There's nothing else the song could be speaking of really.

I've always thought Kate is Aspie herself. Reclusive, hates public appearances, prefers to stay at home, has weird hobbies and is excessively intelligent and sensitive. I thought she either came up with Pi because her S.O. might be Aspie too. Or else the song might be about that book "The Curious Incident of the Dog In the Night Time". A number of her early songs were based on characters from books.

Pi by Kate Bush

Sweet and gentle sensitive man
With an obsessive nature and deep fascination
For numbers
And a complete infatuation with the calculation
Of PI

Oh he love, he love, he love
He does love his numbers
And they run, they run, they run him
In a great big circle
In a circle of infinity

3.1415926535 897932
3846 264 338 3279

Oh he love, he love, he love
He does love his numbers
And they run, they run, they run him
In a great big circle
In a circle of infinity
But he must, he must, he must
Put a number to it

50288419 716939937510
582319749 44 59230781
6406286208 821 4808651 32

Oh he love, he love, he love
He does love his numbers
And they run, they run, they run him
In a great big circle
In a circle of infinity

Lori McKenna - Hardly Speaking a Word
(about/for her LD son)

Well I know your life has been hard
I see it in your eyes and I feel it in your heart
When your eyes move down to the floor
And your mouth changes shape, and your voice sounds sore
I can hold you close in my arms
And tell you that you're special
And that you treasure such great charms
And that you always keep my heart full
But I'm hardly speaking a word
I'm hardly speaking a word
And I know these things should be heard
But I'm hardly speaking a word
And your struggle never changes me
I'll never be able to see the things you see
They say that you see things differently
Just because it's different doesn't mean it can't be free
But I'm hardly speaking a word
I'm hardly speaking a word
So I wonder, what do they know
Maybe the problem is me not letting go
Of a little boy who's smarter than me
Who can't sit still and sees things differently
And I'm yelling when I should be whispering
I'm pushing when I should be carrying
And I don't understand anything I've heard
I should be yelling I love you
But I'm hardly speaking a word

So I wonder, what do I know
Maybe the problem is me not letting go
Of a little boy who's smarter than me
Who can't sit still and sees things differently
And I'm yelling when I should be whispering
And I'm pushing when I should be carrying
And I don't understand anything I've heard
I should be yelling I love you
I should be yelling I love you
I should be yelling I love you
But I'm hardly speaking a word . . .

Pink Floyd - High Hopes...can relate to some, but not all of it

Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our troughts strayed constandly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begin

Along the long road and on down the causeway
Do they still meet there by the cut

There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Running before time took our dreams away
Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decay

The grass was greener
The light was brighter
With friends surrounded
The night of wonder

Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some inner tide

At a higher altitude with flag unfuried
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world

Eneumbered forever by desire and ambition
Theres a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
Though down this road weve been so many time

The grass was greener
The light was brighter
The taste was sweeter
The nights of wonder
With friends surrounded
The dawn mist glowing
The water flowing
The endless river

Forever and ever
