Here are the home design options. Which do you like and why?

Option 1 or Option 2? Also which parts of each do you like better?

I like the second one better. Seems less cluttered. Probably because the navigation menu stands out more and doesn't get lost in the content. I also like the lighter color scheme. Makes it seem more white space-y.

Another website that I frequent did a recent redesign, and they used a white background, which makes it annoying to use for long periods. I chose the second option, because the white will seem less overwhelming against a lighter background than against a darker one.

Anything you can do to limit the whiteness of the discussion area would be greatly appreciated.

Option 2. Mainly because the top horizontal navigation bar is easier to find.

I voted for Option 2. The color scheme is much less painful to my eyes, and the boundaries between things are more clear -- making it easier to process what I'm looking at.

Agreed. I would much rather have a gray or light blue background. The gray already on the website now seems like less of a strain for me.

The 2nd option, much more cleaner.

The second one has a clean, fresh presentation, so my vote goes for that.

I also like #2 best. Looks more like a professional news site.

I vote for concept # 2, but I prefer the navigation bar from option # 1. The navigation bar in option #1 looks cleaner to me.

I'm not really happy with either of the options. They have too much contrast/too many fonts/etc. To be honest, they do not look to me like they were put together by a professional graphic designer.

I'm not saying I think the site should look excessively "processed" and clean, I think simple and consistent would be nice. The forums, being the primary draw of the site, should be omnipresent.
