I have a love-hate relationship between my mother. I am 26, and still kinda living with my mom and dad due to various factors (some of them beyond my control). But my domineering mother said I can't watch Soul Eater, an anime about grim reapers and that stuff because she finds that content objectionable.

What should I do? She is being a prissy, overbearing, obstructionist idiot! I'm not a kid anymore, goddamnit! She is the most Mormon-like mother anyone could have! UGH!

I hear your frustration. Since we have to respect our parents' wishes when we live in their homes, I decided to move out at a young age. I would encourage you to do the same if possible.

Good luck.

As soon as my situations improve, I will do so.

I'm in a similar situation; I'm starting to get kind of annoyed with my parents, (father mostly), and have just been desiring independence a lot more recently.

Sadly, I know it's not going to happen anytime soon, because I've just been relying on them way too much...

Best of luck to you, though; my parents still won't let me watch South Park, and I could care less!

That makes two of us in the same spot. If you ever need me to talk about anything, I'll be here. :)

I think as an adult, parent have no right to restrict what their kids can watch.

I also think adults have the right to watch what they want.

Now, that said, just out of politeness try not to watch it while she's in the next room. Maybe record it if you have AT&T, use a DVD, or something similar. I guess I'm advocating being discrete, but not secretive.

However, if your parents are extending the courtesy of letting you live in their home, then that lends itself to them having some control over you. If they do not want certain programs aired in their home, then that's their right. If I found someone watching a rugby game in my house for example, they'd be booted faster than you can say "Popeye". I have a right to keep my house an Aussie Rules, Cricket and Basketball only house!

Anime is plastered everywhere across the internet. You could probably watch it in segments on YouTube or torrent it season by season.

No, it does not. As far as I know, there is no law permitting a host to be totally obnoxious and controlling. Please find me the legal documents that suggest there is truth to your assertion.

If you seriously consider it your right to be this much of an overbearing control freak in any situation, I think you need to take a good long look at yourself and reassess your values.

Just my opinion.

No there is no law but there is a situation wherein you can ask someone to leave if you don't like the way they are behaving in your house. There is no law either that forces a home owner to endure unpleasant behaviour from someone they are allowing to live in their house.

You need to consider that a lot of people have different preferences. How would you like it if I came to stay with you in your house and started doing things that upset you?
