That is, in interaction with a specific gene variant.

I hope that "further research" is done that actually yields some solid results, one way or the other...otherwise, just more "correlation", IMO.

Wow! First I looked at this and assumed it was worded the other way. Then I realized the true meaning of this and thought, "Now this is really observant." I believe that pollution, among other "modern" things, is linked to autism, since its percentage is increasing in the world as time goes on.

I think the world is being polluted with ridiculous articles on how this-or-that other thing is causing an EPIDEMIC of autism, when in fact, autism is a genetic condition, resulting in congenital brain damage and the only reason there seems to be more of it now, is because there are so many people MY AGE still walking around UNDIAGNOSED. There's not 'more autism than ever before', there's more ATTENTION being paid to LOOKING FOR autism than ever before. If you're looking for it, you will find it, because it has always been there.

Yet another half cocked unsupported theory.

Let's see ... according to my lists, Autism has already been linked to pollution, television, radio waves, video games, gluten, GMOs, thiomersol, chalk dust, petroleum products, cat saliva, emotionless parents, Atlantean ancestry, natural birth, caesarean birth, bottle-feeding, breast-feeding, witnessing your parents having sex, Rock & Roll, synthetic textiles, formaldehyde, alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, hexachlorophene, fluoride in drinking water, the HAARP project, chemtrails, microwave ovens, the Internet, demon possession, devil's influence, lack of a soul, Neanderthal ancestry, extraterrestrial ancestry, the Age of Aquarius, aged parents (both over 40), potty training, influenza, measles, mumps, rubella, ozone depletion, global warning, fallout from Hiroshima and Nagasaki, pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, diesel exhaust, witchcraft, psychic assault, evolution, devolution, Christianity, Scientology, Atheism, homosexuality, and color blindness.

Did I miss anything?

Coffee stain on that part of the page. ^

Oh, and coffee's been linked to Autism too, I think. I'll have to dig through some really old note-books to verify that one.

Maybe Dihydrogen Oxide, as well....

I suppose that without it, there wouldn't be anyone alive with autism.

^Good ones, guys. :)

Seriously, once again, we have a vague set of "findings" that needs more REAL research to actually be worth anything.

Global Warming!

No one can deny that the increase in claims of global warming correlates with an increase in the number of autism diagnoses over the same time period!

I'm pretty sure my Dad had had Asperger's, and he was born and grew up in the first half of the 20th century in rural eastern Washington, far away from industrial pollution. So much for the pollution theory.
