Another Disturbing Trend Revealed by Google

Typed "Aspies are" and "Autistics are" into Google's search engine, and the autocomplete feature returned:

Aspies are...
... annoying
... awesome
... ret*ds
... evil
... stupid
... selfish
... sociopaths
... cute
... superior
... hot

Autistics are...
... ret*d
... annoying
... evil
... dangerous
... selfish
... stupid
... smart
... superior
... dolphins
... intelligent

Most of these are understandable, and some I even agree with; but "Autistics are dolphins"?

Autistics are....dolphins. That's a new one.

Foolish person. Autistics are bears, obviously. Neurotypicals are wolves.

Why not tigers or lions?

That's ridiculous, I in no way resemble a dolphin. I'm definitely a dork.

If you want to go with cats, then autistics are more like tigers and NTs are more like lions. Lions have a social structure and live in groups; tigers are loners who love water.

Yup, definitely a tiger.

But that search term was always going to get a lot of negative responses. If you start with, "Autistics are..." you'll get statements that people have made about all autistics. Such global statements are already an indication that the people using those search terms are familiar with the stereotype, and may believe in them.

Aside from that quackery most the results are dolphin therapy that got missorted under that search therm.


On another note, I'm flattered that cute, hot, and superior are all listed while ugly is not, at least not in that list. Haha.
