I found this and I only want to say, do not be like these people, do not be like the commentators, do not be like the writers, if at all you start taking on their mindsets, you should immediately dunk your head in ice water for two minutes, this is everything wrong with humanity, every one of those jerkass's use of the word "fun" just makes me so angry I that I punch the wall of my room, I friggin' hate them!
One of the most hilariously pretentious scenes in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises was the football stadium apocalypse, which was scored to a boy soprano singing "The Star-Spangled Banner."
Apparently, the movie reviewers do not know what the word "pretentious" means. Ironically, in trying to use the word "pretentious" to sound smart, they themselves were guilty of being pretentious.

Long story short, their ridicule of Man of Steel is really rather inane and vacuous. I could understand if they didn't like it because of pacing issues, but the problems they had with it are frankly odd. I didn't watch the other movies, but if their reviewing quality is of the same quality as the Man of Steel review, these are people who are hardly worthy of your consideration, especially if they annoy you.

I hope Man Of Steel isn't that bad, because that's what my wife's getting on DVD for Christmas.

There's two keys to understanding "Man of Steel": paying close attention, and recognizing it was made as if no other Superman film ever existed.

Yes, even having never seen it, I have that understanding.

Not sure why Die Hard and Man of Steel were on there. Maybe they're just pissy that those aren't directed by the same people the franchise originally started with.

Nah, I heard A Good Day to Die Hard sucked ass.

Oh, and Diabolikal, I apologize if I did sound mean, I just wanted to say not everybody (including me) loved that movie. In a way, Man of Steel's presence on the list almost makes sense to me. (On a side note, I'm surprised they didn't go with Star Trek Into Darkness as well, considering it was recently voted the worst Trek film at a convention.)

I don't really understand what the point of getting mad at one particular website's opinion is?

Do they speak for the hundreds, if not thousands of people out there who actually did enjoy Man of Steel and A Good Day to Die Hard? I didn't see either film myself because well, they both didn't appeal to my personal tastes. But I'd be a fool for denying that they both respectively produced a lot of revenue and the fan-demand is there for sequels to be produced. And I'd be even more asinine for saying that because I didn't personally like them, therefore they're the worst things to have happened.

I advise staying away from the A.V. Club in the future, or if you continue to use it, be extremely careful and learn to take what they say with a pinch of salt --- I personally find their so-called journalism very hive-minded, biased and mean-spirited at the best of times; kind of like the insular society at this one particular yacht club I went to (friend's birthday party) where if you're not one of 'them' (who thinks in exactly the same mindset), you're pretty much ostracised.

Live and let live - there are plenty of other mass-media review websites out there, all with their own rhetoric to follow.

I liked Man of Steel a lot, but that's probably because I realized Zack Snyder (not Richard Donner) was the director, Christopher Reeve isn't involved which means no need to cling to nostalgia, and this is a complete reboot of the series since the one before it wasn't that awesome and was seriously lacking in the action department.
