I've been working under a confabulation for more than a week

My mailbox is the 2nd mailbox. A couple weeks ago or so, I began to think my mailbox was the 1st mailbox for some reason, the confabulation. I wondered why my key wouldn't work and was not happy about the possibility about having to pay for its replacement. A week ago, the 1st mailbox became smashed by a vehicle so that its back door was open; I could see mail wasn't being delivered, so I figured I gotta go to the post office. While grocery shopping this evening, I ran into my landlady and I brought up the smashed mailbox and how I haven't been able to get my mail. She then told me my mailbox was the 2nd mailbox. :? At this point, I was very confused. Surely, my mailbox was the 1st mailbox, that had been smashed, because I had always been able to get my mail out of there! She said we would discuss it tomorrow.

Upon arriving home, I checked the 2nd mailbox and saw indeed that it was mine! 8O

What the heck went wrong?

Hmmm.... Without getting into your brain it's hard to say, but I will try and figure it out

1- Maybe you got so caught up in your special interest that you didn't really realize that you were trying to unlock the wrong one...for...a few days?

2- You realized you had a special connection with the first mailbox,

3- Your mailboxes were wearing the same hat.

4-You had a week long brain fart

5- 1 is a fibonacci number, two is also a fibonacci number, you subconsciously reasoned that they being linked in this way must link your mailboxes

6- The first and second mailboxes like to switch places to confuse people because they are identical twins

7-You wanted chocolate

8- eight is my favorite number, so it must end here

No clue. But I didn't realize my error until after my landlady had pointed it out and I went and checked myself.

For about a month last semester I kept going to the wrong classroom at 4th period after lunch.
Every single day I would forget and go in there and sit down and then wonder why everything looked
different. After a few days the teacher would just catch me as I was starting to come in and remind me
that was not my classroom and point me in the right direction.

I don't know what made you do that, but I bet it's the same kind of thing where I suddenly lose track of what I'm doing and I'm standing in the middle of my bedroom buck-naked and unable to figure out that I am supposed to be putting on my clothes. Or I'll stand there with my shirt dangling from my fingertips, staring into space like I've forgotten how to put it on. I've been putting on my own clothes for about twenty-eight years, so you'd think I'd have enough practice, but no. The brain has to go on vacation. Don't ask me why.

It seems in a way almost like face blindness but it was an object. Mailbox blindness if you will! :D I've done so many things like that and sometimes it really scares me and makes me think it's early signs of dementia. It's prob just emotional or chemical (diet) induced though.

It's probably executive dysfunction again. Common with autism.
