It is only a screening tool. It does not render a valid diagnosis of AS/ASD, which only appropriately-trained, experienced and licensed mental-health professionals can make, and only after face-to-face interviews. Online tests can not provide an objective AS/ASD diagnosis.

Does anyone else find these questions confusing and/or ambiguous? Yeah – I realize that perhaps this is the entire point of these tests.

For example, Question #1: “It is difficult for me to understand how other people are feeling when we are talking.”

Um. Is that the point of conversation? To understand how others are feeling? If so, how come no one ever told me? I thought the point of conversation/dialog was to exchange information. Heck. I don’t even pay attention to how I am feeling (other than, when I am depressed). I try to approach conversation in a rational, steady fashion. Now, I suppose if someone if yelling, they are in a foul mood (and I should be careful about what I say). But otherwise, why try to “guess” what others are feeling. What am I – a medium?

For example, Question #13: “I take things too literally, so I often miss what people are trying to say.”

Um. I listen to what people say. After all, isn’t that what you’re supposed to do? How do you know what they are trying to say, if they don’t say what they mean. How do you know that you miss what people are trying to say?

I could make similar comments about other questions.
