the most?
i think it's that we cant love anyone. i love my nieces and my brother. i loved my cats. many aspies marry and have kids. it's a communication disorder, meaning we have a problem in communication, not incapable of feeling love, nacissistic.

The myth that bothers me the most is where people think we don't have complex feelings. I feel things deeply but am just often at a loss to find the words to describe my feelings (I guess people don't get that it's a communications issue).

That we have no empathy, no empathy, no empathy! I'm SO sick of hearing "I thought you had Asperger's but you can't because you care about others!" If anything I'm TOO empathetic and feel crushed by the weight of the world but that may also come across as cold and indifferent to those who don't know me.

Two AS myths that bother me the most:

1. We're great at math.

2. We're male.

That is all.

That if I can do something once or at one point in time or in one situation, I can do it all the time and when I say I can't I'm just not trying.

Here in the Netherlands, some guy who just happened to also have autism, killed 7 people in a supermarket shooting a couple years ago. And of course his mental state was "the reason"

Since then a lot of people instead of thinking you're some kind of rainman when you mention autism, they'll think you're some kind of psychopath.

What AS/ASD myth do I hate the most?

It's a tossup between the myth that we're all just like "Rainman" at one extreme, and "Slingblade" at the other, and the myth that we're all bed-wetters, fire-starters, and torturers of small animals.

That female aspies are constantly victums of sexual abuse and male aspies are commonly percieved as perpatrators of sexual abuse.

Otherwise, I dislike all the "is this an aspie thing?" question for the smallest things. Making up aspie stereotypes.

one that bothers me is that people believe autistic people and aspergers are unaware theyre different and completely oblivious to the fact we are outcasts. a PSYCHOLOGIST actually said this to me. she said "well, i dont think you are autistic because you are aware that your odd." afterwards she convinced me i had nonverbal learning disability and ordered a test to be done, the test ruled out nonverbal learning disability and put me further into the spectrum

That Autism can't be caused by gut dysbiosis.
That Autism can't be treated by diet, herbs, and probiotics.

The idea that autistics are actually superior, or the next step in evolution.

That's not because I think we're inferior; we're equals and ought to be treated as such; but I have experienced and witnessed too much prejudice to feel comfortable with people turning prejudice back against NTs by insisting that NTs are inferior instead. We know what it's like to be declared inferior; we should know better than to perpetrate that kind of thing ourselves.

And the "next step in evolution" thing just makes my inner scientist want to come out and lecture for about two hours on what evolution is and isn't and why steps aren't a valid way to talk about it and why evolutionary fitness is not the same thing as superiority.
