I've been living with aspergers for the past 30 years of my life, and have been recently diagnosed (in relative terms... I was diagnosed in late September 2013). I don't know enough people personally who have aspergers, but I seemed to have passed through undetected because of my age, and how I speak.

I wonder how many 30-somethings are out there who have aspergers, yet speak like NTs, and were diagnosed with AS late in life.

I also suspect that I have hyperlexia, although I'm not sure how it manifests now. I'll learn more tomorrow, since my neuropsych exam will be completed!

Thanks!
and well met ;-]

Hi :D

Welcome aboard. I'm nearly 30 soon; 29 this year, and am in the process of trying to get a diagnoses. Apparently some people with AS (especially women) are better at hiding it than others. This must be true for me, as when I told everyone I thought I had it, they didn't believe me :P

Look up females with AS on google, you'll find some interesting articles, which might actually apply to your situation. I've arranged to speak with specialists though, and am even lucky enough to have found a professional, who's actually got AS, and is a woman, so should be interesting.

I've never met anyone with hyperlexia, what's it like? People must call you super smart all the time.

Anyway, nice meeting you.
Hart

Nice to meet you Hart, GreenhouseGashes,

For me, I don't know if it was a matter of hiding it or not. What I have found is that people often told me I was vague and abstract, and thus I saw myself as an abstract thinker for much of my adult life. Turns out that I'm a very logical and concrete thinker...

As far as hyperlexia... I don't know for sure. I'll find out more about it tomorrow I suppose.

My therapist caught the diagnosis rather quickly since she is also a specialist in LD. From her perspective, it was the ticks (specifically something I do with my hands... even I don't realize it!) that finalized her diagnosis (along with 4 months of backlog and numerous meetings I had with her).

Following up her diagnosis is a neuropsych... depending on where you get it and what state you live in, it may be covered by insurance, or perhaps not. There are other ways of getting it covered however.

Thanks again ;-]

Hello Qurulifan
When your feeling down just remember..."Life is like a pencil case...it has pencils in it!" Not sure what that's about but you all smiled when you read it. Let that good feeling swish around in your belly.

Welcome
