I'm taking two online college classes for Composition 1 and Introduction to Sociology. My sociology teacher said that I was working too fast.

Her email to me was -

"You are working very quickly through the course. Please realize the unit one threads are not due until the end of the unit (2/3)."

I'm confused as to how anyone could think that I was working too fast and yes, I did know that unit one ends on February 3. I was the first student to submit my answers, but it was an easy assignment. I had to read half of a textbook chapter, watch a 24 minute long video, and write two paragraphs.

So what do you think? Should I wait longer into the two week unit to start working on assignments or should I just continue at my usual pace?

Your teacher probably has her own schedule for marking and dealing with students. You could continue working at your own pace, but perhaps submit the assignments when they're actually due.

I might consider working at my preferred pace, but waiting to submit the work until closer to the due date.

Don't turn your work in until the due date.

I guess I'll do that, but it seems stupid when her issue seems to be that I work too fast.

There are two possibilities I thought of:

1.) The teacher is concerned you aren't aware of the deadlines and feel you have to do everything right away.

2.) The teacher wants to do some discussion board posts and feels your getting to far ahead.

I would suggest emailing the teacher and discussing this. If getting the work done early works for you, I would let him/her know that.

And maybe submit the assignment about a week ahead of time.

My issue is that if I don't work on it as soon as possible, I tend to procrastinate which ruins the overall quality.

You're swimming against the neurotypical stream. In the Real World, failure to recognize this will get you fired.

You don't have to understand why they insist on doing things inefficiently, just that they always do and they highly resent anyone pointing that inefficiency out.

Perhaps by submitting this work early you are missing out on more in-depth understandings provided by the teaching and the class discussions.

I suppose it depends what level you're working at. Ask the teacher why she is concerned by your early submissions.
