I had made a thread about this on Gaia a few years ago. That was a mistake as the users there were telling me at 18 I should have already been living on my own, had a car, a job, and being independent. Well, I am now 20 and I'm still at home and hate it! My mum isn't going to take me to get my GED so I can go to college. She wants my attitude to change as for the past two years I have been really angry, depressed, and just not happy at all :( I'm tired of being stuck around the house every day with nothing to do except get on the computer, the television, read, and do chores around the house. I don't have a car or even a bike to use and walking is out of the question in the Houston area.

My attitude isn't going to change I don't think if I'm now at the house 24/7. If anything, it's going to get worse. My GED would have helped me get out of the house and into a group-home setting where I can be taught what I need to learn to function on my own.

Mum said she is going to talk to a lawyer/counselor in the next few weeks and kick me out. That is what she said this morning.

I've never gotten along with my dad for the past 20 years and now my mum has said she doesn't care if I don't get my GED or end up on the streets. That is hurtful :(

Please give me tips!

I'm sorry your family isn't being supportive, and that your mom isn't willing to help you get your GED. That's got to be really discouraging. :(

I wish I knew where you could find help... If your mom really wants you to move out, it sounds like you'll need to apply for SSI, and find housing. I don't know about your area, but at our local soup kitchen, there are volunteers who help direct people toward the programs and resources they need.

Hopefully someone else on here knows more about where you might go for help?
