Does this sound like HFA behaviour?
- Hyper-focused on activities of interest and snappy when interrupted
- HATES being told what to do or how to do something (unless asks the person for help)
- HATES criticism, causes melt downs.
- Can sleep 12hrs and be exhausted when wakes up in morning.
- Hates when people show up unexpected, earlier than expected, or later than expected
- Needs to know how the day will look in advance
- Does not like casual company
- Does not like socializing events
- Is quick to become anxious
- Works very slow at something they don't care for
- Will work very hard and quickly at something they do enjoy
- Always aiming for perfection - very disappointed when falls short
- HATES being rushed, causes great anxiety and behaviours (snapping at the person rushing them)
- Picks up on things EXTREMELY quick (quicker than most)
- Amazing with computers & numbers
- Can figure out how to fix almost anything
- Able to take an object apart, fix it, and put it right back together again just as it was
- Remembers directions to places after only being there ONCE before
- Struggles with Depression
- A need for things to be done a certain way
- Different way of thinking (problem solving) that often people don't understand, although it still solves the issue
- Issue reading body language, thinking people are mad at you when others say that they didn't look mad at all
- Reading into what people say far more than necessary
- Very particular about spending, money, balance of bank account (feels that it must be kept at certain $$ amount otherwise anxiety occurs)
- Diagnosed by Psychiatrist with OCD
- Has always felt "different" and was teased/bullied a lot in high school due to things they liked or how they liked to dress
- Always been awkward around others, gotten worse as gotten older
- Attachment issues to those that they do like/love - has a hard time letting that person go out without them, or ending a bad relationship/friendship with that person
- Trust issues - doesn't trust people and their feelings, thinks people don't like them when they do, doesn't trust others to follow through, doesn't trust others do to task for them because they will not do it how the person wants it done or how the person would do it
- HATES when people do not follow through, causes extreme anxiety
- HATES surprises
- HATES small talk
- Cannot follow a conversation when the person is giving FAR too much detail
- Gets lost in a request (from someone else) when that person gives more information than is required to complete the request (ie. their explanation of why they need the persons help)
- Difficulty prioritizing (appropriately) and transitioning from one task to another...
I am probably missing some, but based on those would you suspect HFA??
(I am only speaking for myself)...
My answer is, 'YES'. I experience/have all of those traits (some, to a lesser degree, than others, of course, and some traits, not listed) with the exception of Depression and "tired after sleeping for 12 hrs." I used to wake up, tired, until I changed my diet. I will replace Depression with PTSD, as I have a bad case of symptoms at the moment (not to put the focus on me, however). I am diagnosed (officially/professionally) with AS/HFA.

Out of all that, one thing you said stood out as not really being an aspie thing:
Reading into what people say.
I could be wrong, but I was under the distinct impression that other AS/HFA individuals like myself tend to be highly literal in their interpretations of what others say.
In my personal experience the problem is people constantly reading into things I say when in fact I'm saying what I mean and nothing more or less.
There have been multiple threads on here discussing the phenomenon.
Not that it necessarily disqualifies you, but it seems a bit weird to me for an AS/HFA person.
Also, you left out something a lot of people consider key to autism in general: sensory issues.
Without sensory issues, it sounds to me more like you're just a geek with OCD.
None of us are professionals though, so we can't give you a diagnosis.
By the way, being a geek is awesome!
I'm a geek too.
Geeks uber alles!
P.S. You're pretty, smart, & crazy, just my type!
I have a sensitivity to light (I prefer a dim lit room otherwise I get headaches), I also have a sensitivity to sound unless it's music I like (a lot of talking distresses me, as does dripping/snoring/loud breathing/beeping or other repetitive noises), I don't like certain textures or fabrics, if that could be considered a sensitivity.... But that's about all I can think of. Oh and cold.... You will not catch me outside for more than necessary in the winter, I hate cold water or cold air (unless it's mid summer and 40c outside) and I do not like ice... I won't have ice into drinks.
What I meant by reading into what ppl say is not so much reading between the lines, but taking what someone says and having anxiety over it... Wondering why they said it or weather they are mad or hate me.
I'm also quite intuitive. I usually know when something is going to happen before other ppl do, like a premonition. I can accurately guess gender of unborn babies before the mother even knows, and can sense things that others can't.
I also have a very strong nose, like I smell things others can't.
Often I'll be at work and I walk by a certain room and can smell the electrical wires and etc.... Like this one room in particular, I pulled someone aside and asked if they could smell electric burning smell and they couldn't, so they pulled someone else over and they couldn't smell either, so we asked a manager and they couldn't either but said there's electrical equipment in that room (none of us knew that as we don't have access, only the managers do).

You've described me perfectly apart from points 16, 17 and 18 - I've a dreadful memory .
So yes to HFA - in my humble opinion .
That's an awesome staircase in your icon.
As for the O.P., you sound totally neurotypical to me. Now, if you had told me that you can walk on the ceiling and have a foot growing out of your tummy, then maybe, just maybe, you might have some autistic tendencies, but most likely nothing to be too concerned about.
Hi JSBl, I adore your humor and the light that you sprinkle around, wherever you happen to be.
The staircase (and entire building), is in Denmark, designed by renowned, Danish architect, Arne Jacobsen. Architecture is my No. 1, special interest. In case you have an interest, as well, I offer you the following information:
Among many other things, Jacobsen was the architect behind two of the most discussed architectural projects of the time, Århus City Hall (1939-42) and the new building for the National Bank in Copenhagen (1965-78).
In later years, Jacobsen was able to establish his position as one of the most important of European architects with a number of famous buildings in other countries including England and Germany, for example St Catherine's College in Oxford (1966), the Danish Embassy in London (1969-77) and the City Hall in Mainz (1970-73).
In addition to his architectural projects, Jacobsen designed some of the most beautiful furniture and flatware, of his time.
