Yeah, it was pretty meh. but it's cool looking and it says 'H&K' on the side, which means people will pay $30 a mag to shoot it at events. It's basically a piston driven AR with slab sides.
I'm of mixed opinion on the G11, I mean the thing was a technical marvel, but you're talking nearly 30 years of development and god knows how much money, to say nothing of the numerous proprietary components, all to give infantry a marginal advantage, when infantry are rapidly dwindling in importance in modern warfare. Asymmetrical counterinsurgency type conflict is different, but even then propaganda and humanitarian work is where the war is won, so I see the G11 as analogous to the WWII tiger and leopard tanks; amazing pieces of expensive and complicated engineering that for all their technical superiority are overwhelmed by cheaper and easier to mass produce weapons systems. I think the G11 actually was tested against the M16/M4 during the ACR trials in the 80's, and the increase in combat effectiveness was not enough to justify the price.
