A comedian said, 'Does it appeal to the pedophiles?"
I really don't understand why people want to look pre-pubescent. Does it look cleaner? Neater?
If a man has a shag carpet on his back, I can see why he might want to get rid of the hair, but most men don't have that problem.
Grown men look weird without chest or belly hair. Another thing, even men who are in the media & have that done, do not shave their armpits. Why is that, if all the other body hair is removed?
As for women, I'd have a difficult time having someone I don't know messing with my lady parts, for minimum wage with hot wax or a sharp object. (that's a job I'd Never want to do! EW!! !)
Sorry, but I just don't like this new trend. I shave my legs & arm pits, but being totally hair free below the neck is just kind'a ...strange. 8O

I don't know why, but body hair grosses me out whether the individual be a man or a woman. I like having no hair. It feels clean and neat. I also prefer hairless men. But that's just me. I can understand why others prefer having hair. I find facial hair to be the worst. It makes me cringe. I don't like kissing, or even hugging, guys with facial hair. If it's trimmed short, maybe I can br okay with it, but for the most part I dislike it.

I don't like having body hair because of sensory & hygienic reasons. It can make me more tickelish & I hate being tickled. It also can itch & make me sweat more. I shave my armpits & crotch for those reasons; looks have nothing to do with it. I don't like having facial hair either Hugs because letting it grow too long gets itchy & like you mentioned it might could annoy my partner when being affectionate like. I'm on some meds for male-pattern baldness that have an effect of reducing my body & facial hair a little which I like. I have problems shaving my face due to bad fine motor-skills, a tremor disorder that can act up when doing fine motor-skills, & I have a rare low vision disorder. Alittle over a month ago started using a facial hair reducer cream designed for women called Vaniqa & I'm shaving my face about as often as I used to but the hair isn't as long so it's easier to shave; the creams easier to put on & probably more effective if I don't let the hair get too long.

Didn't it originate with swimmers, under the idea it would make them swim or dive faster?

Generally speaking, with exceptions of course:

-Teens and young adult girls prefer hairless boys, 90% of the cases.

- 25-28 women are more likely to prefer hairless to indifferent.

- 29-35 are way more likely to be indifferent to preferring hairy, they aren't usually crazy about a hairless body unless it's oh-so toned and six packed lol.

- 35+ are way more likely to prefer hairy men.

And oh, one more thing, the muscles, height and body stature(and anything else related to size) variations have a way more impact than hairy/hairless for all age brackets. A hairless short and skinny guy would remind them of a a child boy, and a hairy skinny would be seen as a chimpa.

Another thing, those who like "mainstream popular preferences" such as hairless and toned are usually the most LOUD about their preferences, young adult girls who like hairy men are more discrete in real life about their preferences because they don't want to be seen as odd and 'old-fashioned' by their friends, and even if they are indifferent to both they are more likely to give examples of hairless toned men when asked about their preferences.

In social apps like skout and okcupid, I have been surprised by the numbers of young women (mid twenties) who don't mind a hairy chest and some even love it.

A lot of the gay male population seems to have started the "hairless" male thing a while back. Perhaps it's because they couldn't grow hair or lacked a lot of hair due to low testosterone? Regardless, it's a personal preference, I guess. I say do what makes you happy and comfortable but don't do it because that's what "society" expects.

I doubt that's the reason for a lot of em. Lots of gay guys are very sexually active & in my experience lower testosterone lowers sex drive, makes it harder to get turned on & harder to get off.

I really don't think gay men have lower testosterone levels. I know I (although I may bi not gay) have slightly above average but still in normal range levels of tesosterone. I seriously doubt my boyfriend has low levels of tesosterone but I can't know forsure.

I myself prefer hairy men (I enjoy the bear subculture a lot), and hairy women.

Hairless freaks me out, and the skin feels weird as it's growing out and just *shudder*.

I dont like the feeling. Makes me incredibly itchy as well.

I never understood the man thing. I usually think of hair as a masculine thing and hairless as feminine. I can understand if a guy trims down there though, out of respect to a girl.

I think its simply part of that "forever young" trend, that tries to tell you, that having any kind of matured body beyond puberty, needs to be ashamed of. And certain companies support that, simply because for removing hair there is an market, while for "staying the way you are" you cant sell stuff to people.

I read or heard something recently when it was suggested that this trend was directly connected to the porn trade, and that when porn moved to the small screen, hair had to be removed so viewers could get a good look! Also, interestingly, it seems that the trend for, ugly, imo, long, squared-off fake finger nails for women, also started with porn.

It's a trend. Next decade the neatly trimmed look will be back.

this exactly

and the serious problem is that all of the process for hair removal end up in one way or another injuring the skin, which I find uncomfortable AND in the case of the genital area opens the person up to a higher possibility of catching anything that they may be exposed to.

I don't remove anything
