Maybe I am incorrect, but, isn't wifi the least secure connection to use CC? I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab, am new to androids and as far as I can understand, the only way to connect to web on this tablet is via wifi. I have found an app that I like, a game and I want to purchase it but don't know if it is safe. Could someone please offer advice or suggestion?

You could try what I do and purchase on a PC/laptop, as you can access the store on there

I'd be wary of using a public WiFi access point (coffee shop, station, café etc) for anything where security is a consideration but otherwise, making sure the web site address starts with "https" should be sufficient irrespective of whether you're using WiFi or a wired connection. Sites involved with CC transactions tend to use this by default anyway.
If you can get to the WiFi setup on your Galaxy, checking that WPA/WPA2-PSK is enabled to help secure the connection to your domestic WiFi source adds an additional, local, layer to the security already provided by an https connection.
