Finally got a new job (yay!) which I start in 4 weeks but i am getting very anxious about it already.

I was struggling with my current job a lot and had to get away. If everything is ok at work, people leave me alone and I have a job clearly set out then I love to work hard and have had some amazing results in the past but the new job is a little different and once in a while I will be expected to go out and visit customers. probably on my own. that, I can't do.

In the past I have done sales and I am fairly happy on the phone with people though much of it was done over e_mail. This new place had someone recommend me to them as my sales results are always so good but I just went along with it and then accepted the job. Getting a little freaked out by what may happen in 4 weeks time. If I find I can't do it by day 1 or 2 I will end up having a bit of a meltdown.

New jobs can be unpredictable. You can never anticipate what will happen there, who will be your colleagues and what politics they will play.
And meeting customers phew that will burst my anxiety like anything

Meeting customers is something I have always avoided. 12 years of excuses and dodging things have given me a reputation but would rather that than have to do it.

have always been successful in sales and my wife just keeps telling me to stay positive and see it as trying something new, if it fails it fails, which I guess is true but that is easier said than done. 4 weeks away and I am already getting worked up about it.

Good for you....

I have job fears even before I get one...

You've worked in the past and it sounds like you've done pretty well with customers I'm sure you'll be fine..

Perhaps you are underestimating your people skills? Try taking a minute or so to relax before going in to visit the customer. Take deep breaths and plan out in your mind what you are going to do when you talk to the customer. Maybe practice beforehand with somebody you are comfortable with?
