I listen to all kinds of music, but somehow Country is my favorite- when its clearly hated by everyone else, I can't help but love it. But I dont mean today's country, but the real Country! I love Patsy Cline, Moon Mullican, Hank Williams , Lefty, Marty Robbins. I like some of the alt country songwriters too- Like John Prine! Lucinda Williams, etc. Some of the early 1990s Country is OKAY- Garth Brooks, Suzy Bogguss, Vince Gill, etc. I have to convince people how good Country is. I guess some people love it or hate it. For some reason, no one is on the fence about Country. They either love it or hate it. But I LOVE IT! But i hate Indie Rock!

I wouldn't say I'm a fan of country music, but I definitely have more respect for it than most of the popular genres nowadays. That all said, I think it's pretty cool how Metallica managed to integrate country elements into the albums "Load" and "Reload".

I am not a fan of country. Part of it is the conservative politics associated with it, and part of it is how much of country is just plain depressing. If I need depressing, I'll just remember my life from years past.

Quite a bit of the music I like fall into the Country category. To me Country is like any other genre, as are the various singers: I like some, but far from all. I like some of Slim Dusty's music for instance, but far from all of it. There isn't that much within any genre or singer/group I like. I'm pretty picky; not in the connoisseur kinda way, but simply in what appeals to me.

I like all musical genre's. Country is one of my favourites. It's as much a left genre as a right one. Although, I've been noticing that many new country songs that get a lot of airplay define southern identity in a way that's cynically partisan, and makes me wonder if the GOP isn't putting a lot of it out.

Here is some excellent psychedelic country music that is politically neutral:

This song was written by Jon Phillips of the Mama's and the Papa's.

A Lesser known band from Austin Texas. This is more zydeco than country, I guess.

I hate new country, probably would not have the urge to rip my ears off if I heard older stuff....I do like Johhny Cash. Also though what would you consider to be indie rock? all indie is, is a band that doesn't have a record label at least that is what the term is supposed to refer to....indie=independent of record label. Funny thing is there are probably bands considered 'indie rock' that have labels.

He probably meant "alt rock", or "Prog. rock".

I was gonna kick the OP's ass for disliking the Beatles.

But he just now made up for it by mentioning Moon Mullican!

Anyone who likes Moon Mullican...anyone who has even HEARD of Moon Mullican...is tops by me!

:D

This is pretty cool. It's Pantera with David Allan Coe. You can pretty much call it country metal. :P

Dude! I love this. Know any other songs like it?

And, while we're sharing Country/Other Style mashings, I'm gonna share some Country Acid House, also NSFW for language:

As far as I know, just the rest of the "Rebel Meets Rebel" album. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find good country metal, considering that metal has been fused with nearly every other genre of music at some point. :(

Just to dispel any red-state associations you may have with this stuff:

I am a fan of the late, great Marty Robbins myself. My favorite of Marty's songs is The Master's Call. It is an incredibly beautiful song that tells of a man's redemption to Jesus Christ. Even if you don't believe in a god, I suggest that you at least give The Master's Call a listen.

Didn't Marty Robbins do "The West Texas Town of El Paso?"

You are correct, but the song is called El Paso.
