I find that noises most people would not be able to sleep through easily I find soothing and actually help me sleep:

aeroplanes: when I was at university for a while I slept really well because of the aeroplanes going overhead, we were near an airport

motorbikes: again while at university for some reason every Wednesday these people would have some motorbike races in the car park right outside our flat

people making noise: university again, people were out late a lot and made noises as they were heading back to their flats

motorway noise: there was a motorway outside the flat

radio: I always have a radio on without fail

most people I know hate all of these things, I love them

does anyone else like these noises when sleeping?

This is the kind of thing that will drive me up the wall. I can't sleep without a fan to drown out all the noises of people and cars. I guess I'd fall under the category of "most people."

I like motorway noise, areoplanes and motorbikes as long as they aren't the ones that go really noisily
It's a kind of white noise and very soothing to me
Also police cars and ambulances

well when I say most people, I really mean people I know, the reason I sleep with a radio is to drown out the small noises, you know like a clock ticking or someone snoring or moving.

I have heard that particularly for people with Asperger's loud noises are annoying, like you say you need something to drown out the big noises.

All those noises irritate the crap outta me so i have white noise cranked up to mask all of it. the one outdoors people generated sound I find very soothing is a train horn at night.

Yes, I've written about that here before. In another thread I mentioned a playlist I use to go to sleep, it has some very unusual noises that really make my body vibrate pleasantly such as movie sound affects of dishes being clanked together while they are being washed, forks being clanked against each other, balls bouncing, zipper zipping, coins clanking. My favs are noises made from people walking on various surfaces (think of movies when you hear high heels clicking, but it works with all shoes on all surfaces) and vegetables being chopped (I used to go to a pizza place near my home and order salad because they would chop the veggies in front of me and the sensation would be so pleasant I'd be collapsing against the wall almost, but now I have it my computer).

I call the playlist extra-vibey because all of them make me vibrate to a ridiculously wonderful level.

It makes sense though that since we are so super sensitive to noises that make us physically uncomfortable, that there would be others that are promote physical happiness. I think people just have to be really creative about what they listen to to find the noises that stimulate them.

they are interesting noises, i suppose they are noises you could relate to being at home in the day time, i know some people say they find the sound of hoovering because it reminds them of when their parents would be cleaning when they were younger.

personally i really despise cutlery noises, vegetable chopping is nice though. and coins jangling, although for some reason i only like the sound of pound coins.

thankfully the radio is enough to keep me happy, i did get addicted to the fan noise while on holiday in a hot country but that was probably only because i did not have my radio

I love nature sounds. especially water like waves on the beach or a babbling brook.

I find the humming from the fridge to be relaxing, but if I pay to much attention to it I feel like I can't breath.

Sometimes harsh noise music, like Merzbow, can actually be quite relaxing. It's mostly white noise anyhow, so that probably explains it.
