I'm just wondering how any of you are self-employed or are considering being self-employed.

I am starting my own business this year, I can help anyone that is interested in starting their own business, especially if it's an online business.

I've always wanted to run my own computer repair business, and be my own boss, though truthfully, I don't think I would be able to juggle all of the different aspects of running a proper business, like managing finances, marketing, or even managing a proper schedule. I could totally see myself having some days where I'm like "sorry, I don't feel like working, the shop's closed", and other days where I blatantly violate work safety regulations by working on a single problem for hours at a time without taking regular breaks.

If I were to run a business, I would have to have people working under me, and that opens its own can of worms because it means I would have to deal with coworker interactions, putting everyone on a proper payroll, and all of the other things that go with hiring people to work for you. This would pretty much defeat the purpose of me starting my own business.

I'm strongly considering attempting to transition to self-employment as 'normal' employment doesn't seem to be working out for me, but like every other area of interfacing with society, I have no idea of where to start. On that note, any help you an offer me will be greatly appreciated. I'm not really sure what sort of help you're offering. Did you mean the technical aspects of getting a business started such as paperwork and registration, or stuff like finding a niche in a market and filling it?

Started freelancing last year. Although every month there's always a period of near starvation, I still enjoy the perks:

1. Not having to hang out awkwardly in the same workplace on a routine basis.
2. Respect from the client who actually treats you like a professional.
3. The luxury of having an assistant when a job pays for it.
4. Occasional sleep in weekdays!

I've been trying to get into doing some work from home but having no luck so far. The only job experience I have is working in the fast food restaurant which I'm still doing since 2003 and I've done some small volunteer work back when I was in middle school in the 90's. I have not gone to college either.

Does self publishing on Amazon count as being self employed? Because I am trying to do that this year. I am almost finished with my novel and I am going to do that.

Yes, being a writer/author is considered self-employment. You can make money writing if you can find a publisher and you will have to market your book(s). It's important to be seen because if your book(s) don't sell you won't make any money.
