Hi,I'm looking for a way to meet people,in person, who, like me,are on the autism spectrum, particularly fellow AS "sufferers" who are mostly in their 20's and 30's,does anyone know where I can find information on this? I ask because I would like to make some friends and maybe even date women who have AS as I feel that that would be the best way to go, at least for me, because at least I'll have some friends around my age going through the same challenges as I am going through.

I'm not in the States but to my knowledge there's nothing like that round here, though I do have access to a mental health therapist (she has an Aspie son, suspects she herself is ASD) who sees me every couple of months for a one to one session. Said therapist has been putting ideas into my head, as I've been trying to exploit her to further my career.

There has been talk of setting up an initially volunteer-led buddy service for people who are on the less-able end of the spectrum, provided primarily by those of us that are not so disabled. I may even have the chance to inform future community healthcare policy and turn it into a wage if I get off my arse and pull my finger out.

I could organise and run rings round s**t like that with my eyes closed, it'd be awesome.

I wondered the same thing a week or so ago, so I asked google and found a meetup for Aspies near me, next one's in a day and a half and I'm nervous as hell about it! It seems counter intuitive to have a gathering of people who are likely to have a social aversion, but it definitely makes sense as well.

I live in New Zealand, our population is tiny... I have to assume there are similar such things around the place? I would be surprised to hear there wasn't one you could get to actually.

Try http://www.meetup.com/

YMMV, but I've had very positive experiences with an active and accepting aspies group as well as a mental health group.

Specialisterne is an international nonprofit which has the singular goal of enabling 1 million jobs for people on spectrum. DO check them out! I conducted an interview on national radio regarding my experiences with Specialisterne and SAP.

On a more local level, Focus Professional Services is a consulting organization based in Vancouver, Canada that attempts to hire people on the spectrum to act as IT consultants. They're a very new organization.

For those of us in Vancouver, there is an Aspies Meetup group; pm me if you're interested. I look forward to seeing anyone in Vancouver either in person or in a larger gathering!

Meetup is the best place (only place) to look. Depending on where you live you could find a few groups, but make sure they're directed towards adults with autism and not parents of children/teens with autism. There were plenty of good groups back home in washington, I attended none obviously because I have far too much social anxiety, but there's nothing in Utah.
