So, I was just reading Life with Aspergers: What is stimming and what does it feel like. (A very informative artical, by the way) and I was wondering how everyone else stims?
Me personally, I will pick at my lip until I tear a little piece off, then pick at the scab. I'll also chew my fingers, right by the nail on both sides, and rub them against my lips. I will also bite the inside of my cheeks (it feels sometimes like they are torn to pieces :P ) and get my finger damp with spit and smell it ( :/ ). Recently I've started rubbing my thumb around my fingers, snapping them and running them along walls and things, and tilting my head back as far as it can go. (I know, it's quite a lot)
Also, when I was little I used to stick my hands together and move them around imagining they were dragons flying. (Most people thought I was ret*d :P )
Thanks for reading (And hopefully posting)

I recall when I was younger (7-12) I when I would get over Stimulated I would (try) retreat to a dark closet just try to calm down and regroup if you will I recall it pissing off a few of my teachers as they would have to fight with me to get me out of the closet (I'm sure there's a joke to be made about that) however I couldn't properly vocalize why I would go into a dark closet so to them they thought it was me either "acting out" or "being anti social" but when in fact I just wanted to get away from the bright lights and noises.

I flick my fingers, flap my hands (only when really upset or excited), stare into space, cuddle with people (I like to go to my siblings, but they are usually against it. :?) or toe walking and bouncing.

I have full-body motor stereotypies that can only be controlled by medication.

It's not a lot of fun.

I often catch myself clenching my jaw, but ouchie. So I started redirecting myself to stick my tongue between my teeth when I do it, not as ouchie, and it's turned into a "thing." Also I have a pokey wisdom tooth and I like to scrape my tongue along it.

Um. I like rubbing behind my ears.

At work, I mostly bounce my feet and fold extra stickers into little triangles. The triangle stickers thing is kind of nuts, other people just throw them away, but I'll come home from work and pull like 10 new triangles out of my pockets.

My normal stimming is tapping my fingers and feet (I'm actually a drummer as well so I'll get beats going). But I'll flap my hands, clap really fast and jump when I'm really excited, I can't help it.
If I'm really upset I'll basically vibrate and shake my fists.

When I was younger (8-16) I would bang my head off things when really upset. Or flop around on the bed or floor.

Wow that is enlightening. I used to do that but it never occurred to me to think that it was stimming.
I rub my thumbs against my fingers really fast but I thought that was pretty much the extent of it, except for running hands against textures. And clapping. But I don't clap around people, because I know it's weird.

I used to do the same thing when I was in school. the teachers hated me going to the restroom in the middle of class but if I didn't do it. I would have a nervous breakdown.

I have a few,Clapping and rubbing my hands together. Less often (when I am really anxiou/agitated) I touch the top of my head and will pick at imaginary spots. My head gets quite sore and luckily enough I have realised today that I haven't done it in a while.

I'm actually REALLY glad I'm not alone with some of my stims!

Here are mine:
* chewing on my nails / skin around the nails until I basically bleed (Eww I know)
* cracking my knuckles
* picking at scabs in my scalp?.picking dandruff and either eating it or just flicking it away with my fingers (sorry if I'm grossing you guys out!! !)

I don't know if it would be classed as 'stimming', but I often wring my sweaty hands when I get nervous and I occasionally flap, but not very often.

When I find myself doing it, I will just perform a series of hand Mudras.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mudra

I also tend to rock back and forward a lot when I am feeling physically ill and just pacing the floor....I'll sometimes pace the same few metres of floor for hours (much to the dismay of my family) because constant, repetitive walking, movement in a confined area totally relaxes me until I get that exhausted, I eventually must go to bed and sleep the rest of it off.

The joints in my legs shake all the time. It happens without me noticing most of the time... And sometimes I catch myself doing it intentionally for comfort. Is toe walking a form of stimming? I've walked on my toes for years and thought it was slightly odd yet didn't think very much of it until I recently discovered that many aspies do this :)

Because of my ADHD I move a lot. My stims are rocking front to back, and tapping my fingers like this: one hand- thumb touches index finger thumb touches middle finger thumb touches ring finger thumb touches little finger, then ring finger middle finger and index finger and so on and on. And I 'wash' my hands, I make the movement, I'm not really washing. And when I sit, my feet make small rounds.
