Well I do like watching movies and once in a while a little television. But its not so much the culture itself, but the worship of it.

Like the Oscars, some people were watching it and had to see some of it and honestly it makes me sick the way people act like these stuff actually MATTER IN ANY WAY. Movies are ENTERTAINMENT and I like being entertained myself but to celebrate entertainment when there exist in the world things that actually matter that can be celebrated.

I can't stand gossip commentators who analyze the way some actor dresses or some such crap. I honestly want to punch them in the face for being stupid. how would you like to be a professional fashion commentator? what a pathetic existence.

You know what matters? politics. philosophy. you OWN everyday life. science. and other things these things have an actual tangible impact on your life. if you base your emotions on a) being entertained, and b) some persons life that you don't know, you are seriously insecure and shallow.

(I don't mean this as an attack on anyone who does like getting into popular culture as I myself have friends like that. But as for myself I can't stand it and I don't think its healthy in excess)

I myself, hate the nonsense surounding the Academy Awards, but, as for the awards themselves...
Tale-telling is an activity that goes back thousands of years, its likely been going on since humans developed language, films are only the latest continuation of this. When films are done right they can influence thousands of people. I beleve excellence in anything should be recognised, so why not recognise excellence in something that reaches so many?

The ironic thing here is that your name is a direct rip-off, of Popular Culture.

I agree that the stupid elements of popular culture are to be detested. Popular fashion does my head in. People wear crap because some "celebrities" dub it as popular. "Celebrities are in fact mere mortals, alot of them stupid ones. Their opinions should not matter. Their job is to entertain people, not spew out their often misguided views. People should listen to scientists and society's intellectuals, not unqualified and grossly overpaid entertainers. It is a sorry state.

You're probably referring to a comic book character by this name. But the word itself goes way back to a religious festival held in India, where a gigantic representation of a temple was wheeld through the streets, and often got out of control.

i feel like exploding when they start gabbing about the celebrities outfits. i thought we were here to celebrate entertainment not fashion... i think that while we're celebrating movies with a big award show, why not celebrate other things that are more important? what about teachers? doctors? scientists? yes, they can win other awards but not on some fancy night when all of america is watching.

also i don't think that an actor/actress needs an award to know whether or not he/she is superb or horrible.

I don't hate it anymore. I just feel sorry for people who indulge in it. 1 morning cup of CNN fear mixed with a couple TBL spoons of Britney Spears attention seeking antics added to jeans that were made for $10 but sold for $150 because they have a special name mixed in with some advertisements that try to make vodka look sexy. My goal in life is to completely live beside and beyond the pop culture, not to either dislike or like it. It takes too much effort to hate it. It's not going away anytime soon.

Hmm, the fashion thing doesn't really put me off. If celebrities look good why shouldn't other people replicate that fashion if they wish too~? The only thing I don't condone was that one celebrity that wore only half a side of a shirt and for her other boob she put a sticker on her nipple to cover it up. In that send some guy could cover his thingy in a napkin and run around in the buff.

But I hear that stuff(breast wise) doesn't matter in Germany :'D

I agree with you completely. The things that matter to me are everything you mentioned, plus time spent in the company of my pets.

I thought Juggernaut was another name for the Hindu avatar of Krishna. That may be popular culture in India. But I think Juggernaut is talking about American popular culture here.

Wow. And I thought I was the only one.

I hate celebrity gossip. I don't care if britney spears' is pregnant or some women tells you how she lost 2 stone in a month.

This guy would agree would agree with me:
