I got my first job about two weeks ago. And man, is it a doosy. I mean, it's nothing big, it's just a summer job. Anyway, it's at a local sandwich shop. Kind of like a subway. The customer tells you how to make the sandwich. I just have one problem, I can't pick up the small items because of my lack of fine motor skills. So, part from my hands shaking constantly for five hours a day, it's not that bad. Really, it's the only think keeping me from the brink of sepression at the moment. So that's good.
But the manager. I've never met anyone like him. Geeze! What a jackass! He's rude to everyone, including employees. And he is SEXIST. Only the women wash the dishes. Only the women make his food. He comments on how pretty all of us are. It's quite degrading.
There's a survey on the back of the receipts, I'm debating filling it out and reporting him for the complete and udder disgustingness that is the food preparation area. As well as the sexual harassment. But, I'm not sure if I should. I feel like it would benefit the employees as well as the customers having him reported and shut down. I don know what to do. Has anyone ever been in this situation before? What did y'all do?

Are you going to college, too?

If you are, at least that's a way of getting out of the "retail, fast food trap."

I'm sorry you're experiencing sexism from a schmuck. Is the manager doing anything to you personally? If not, I wouldn't mention it, especially if you have this job to pay tuition.

Like I said, if you get a degree, you'll be able to get out of the "retail, fast food trap."

That's probably what I would do as well... BUT, it's the right thing to do to report poor behavior. Why should all of the young women, who need work, be normalized to think that type of treatment is something they just have to put up with, and any male employees or customers shouldn't have to put up with his jerky behavior either. I am sure everyone is thinking 'oh, someone else will report him', but, I'd have to assume that it hasn't happened yet?
It's a hard choice. All the best to dontmesswithtexas. ;)

That's not a guarantee at all, especially these days.

Not a guarantee. Nothing's a guarantee.

But it gives one a fighting chance. I don't care what anybody says.

Unemployment rates say it all to me... http://www.bls.gov/emp/ep_chart_001.htm

(that and my years of experience trying to get past HR software that requires a checkbox next to that Bachelor's degree... my first professional job 'required' an Associate's and it took a lot of wrangling from the inside the company to get me past that roadblock.)

The only real jackass at my job is this one auditor who means well but just makes my anxiety soar through the roof. Luckily my Supervisor and Manager are both awesome.

I'd try looking for something else while you're at it, and just kiss up to the guy as best as you can until you get transferred to your new job so he says positive things about you. Report it after you're gone.
